Re: Post pics of your 335-style guitars please.
W O W . . . who did that ?
I met a wonderful fella on the TDPRI 10-12 years ago who made me several killer tele bodies. He posted a build thread about a semi hollow he was making. I fell in love with the body style, did a bit of trading and he made this beautiful body for me. I had him chose the mahogany for tonal qualities over looks. I think he did a great job! He is a professor at a University in Indiana who did this on the side.
I had a neck and wiring harness from a P-90 Peavey Firenza. So, instead of buying a neck, pots, switch, etc., I just used those. At that time, Jon Moore was just starting his pickup winding biz on ebay. I contacted him and asked if he would wind a set of unpotted low wind buckers with A3 mags and unbalanced coils. They turned out beautiful and perfect for the guitar. I wound up selling the pups in a fit of brokeness and replaced them with GFS Retrotron Nashvilles. Nope....no go in this guitar, so out they came.
I bought a used set of Artec 'Vintage' style buckers for cheap as a stop gap until I could get a set of Seths or Antiquities in it. That was several years ago and I must say, (surprised as I am) the Artec's sound killer in this guitar. The neck pickup is addicting. It exudes blues and is very responsive to dynamics. The bridge pup reminds me of a 59 Les Paul I once played before the owner (local vintage expert) sold it for an unbelievable sum of money. It has that killer honk to it and pinch harmonics seem to fly off the fretboard. Plugged into a non master Marshall type tube amp, it reminds me of Greg Martins tone.
Thanks for asking! It's just a lovely guitar. It plays beautifully and sounds amazing.
