Hopefully I'm not the only one who has an ugly mistress.. .

This guitar looks better in person; camera's make it look worse, but I won't lie . .. not into the color.

However, this 93 s540 has great tone and is in almost perfect condition. It has an Evolution in the bridge and used the "egen" wiring, giving it ten pickup combinations.

The only pic I can find of the guitar's ugliness.... The headstock! Never a fan of the "Butterknife", but damn, the neck plays soooo sweet. Got this guitar in 85'-86'. Oh, and the pick guard is cracked and it has some old sticker residue here and there.

Kramer Focus neck, unknown Floyd body, HB from a Jackson Flying V. No finish, pup wired straight to output.

And I'd rock the hell outta that Epiphone, that thing rules.

Thanks. Its not ugly enough that I want to sell it, but it screams 80s music. Maybe thats what I play!? Hmm...

Her name is Cinderella. She was my first.

She literally caught fire a few times. I thought "What the heck, she looks good this way."

You can interpret that however you like.

Thanks Kam.
It's not so purty in person.

Nothing ugly about that S540 dude.

That S540 is nothing if not hot!

Swampy, nice ugly Roadstar ;). Necks on these guitars are fab, no?

Here's my ugly Roadstar. It's the bridge that uglifies it and the all blackness, but it's so good I decided it needed a nicer neck pu.

I've never seen that bridge before. Is that a version of the Khaler? I had one on a Charvel 25 years ago but dont remember much about it.

Black guitars always look great when polished up!

No, it's called a Pro Rock'r, Ibanez's own design which they put on guitars 1984-85. It's a regular fulcrum trem with a block and pivots on pins as opposed to knives. Cumbersome, badly designed but doesn't compromise the tone of the guitar (thankfully). Like a Kahler, however, it does have a separate locking thing behind the nut (another dumb move), which I replaced with a Floyd type string retainer.

Thankfully Ibanez got smart and paid a license for the Floyd patent and gave us the Edge.

I gotta like the aesthetics of a guitar to buy it, and will usually vie for better looking over better playing. Having said that, my particular taste in guitars may be a little divergent.
My favorite is this one.

It's safe to say that it's one of those guitars that are kind of like Tilda Swinton in their oddball attractiveness quotient, but I'm a fan. Since my other two are both SGs of different colors and sizes and string counts, I don't have mush else to go on as of yet.

Thanks, knowing other people like it helps a bit. I wasn't fishing for compliments when I made this thread, all my other sabres have a maple top and this one stands out like a sore thumb.

I'm a big fan of solid colors and metallics when they're done right, and I dig the S in general. That finish reminds me of Fender's Sherwood Green, which is one of my favs.

If it helps, I think its a really nice looking guitar too. I've seen those s series in eye gouging 80s, oddball color quilt or flame (not a fan of either anymore), or blehk. That's a refreshing departure from all of them.

I much prefer them without the flame/quilt crapola. I dig the color too.
