yep, pearly and duanes darkburst are the ones i lust after.

Re: Post Your Holy Grail - from 10 or 20 years ago

I've been somewhat lucky that my tastes in guitars were way more mature than my style of playing.
So whilst I have always been into Les Paul's (the humbucker ones) my abilities and tastes now venture deeply into p90s, mini humbuckers, Tele and strats with vintage styling and so on.

Re: Post Your Holy Grail - from 10 or 20 years ago

I still just want a vintage Jaguar - ten years ago, twenty, etc.

My tastes have expanded in particular in the last decade, but it’s never not pivoted around that.

david grissom's 1986 mapletop 'standard' 24 PRS.

Still the same except I own the best guitar I've ever played now. Thorn Artisan.

1960 LP Special TV Yellow was and is my favorite feeling guitar ever back then, and now.

I lusted for one of these, but could never afford it then. I price one as a custom order in 89-90 and it was almost $1500

Re: Post Your Holy Grail - from 10 or 20 years ago

20 years ago I didn't know a thing about guitars. Ten years ago I wanted sunburst vintage spec strat and 8 years ago bought one.

My tastes haven't really changed since (except realizing vintage singles are not the sound for me)... Just got surer about it.

Re: Post Your Holy Grail - from 10 or 20 years ago

Ever since the became a thing, I've always lusted after some form of PRS or another. Not necessarily because they had wild or unique specs, just because they look great and are constructed with the best materials by the most skilled hands.

Re: Post Your Holy Grail - from 10 or 20 years ago

30 years ago my holy grail was a lefty Les Paul Custom "black beauty" with 2 pups.

Had to wait 6 months for them to build it (f**kers).

Re: Post Your Holy Grail - from 10 or 20 years ago

When I started 18 years ago I was really into Ibanez guitars. RGs, JEMs, all of it. But for whatever reason my grail guitar was an SG Custom:

Then I got an SG Standard and got tired of the issues (tuning, neck joint flexing) and sold it. I'm honestly glad I never had the version with 3 humbuckers and a tailpiece I'd never use.

10 years ago my dream guitar was to have someone build me a neck-thru slightly-thicker SG with a better headstock.

I don't have a dream guitar anymore. I've resigned myself to the idea that my tastes will continue to change and prefer to enjoy the process of flipping gear and trying different stuff.

My taste hasn't changed much in 20 years except back then I would only play Gibsons and now I have swung back to any brand as long as the guitar looks, feels, and sounds good.

But this specific one gets me in the gut, then & now:https://images.app.goo.gl/ojskQAFetgnMFaFm7

Although I wouldn't kick a black Rickenbacker 360 out of bed either!

I have no idea what I really wanted 10 years ago. I was experimenting with ESPs then. That or a truly custom built EBMM would've been my thing.

Now, it's this as far as electrics go: Gibson Johnny A model (though I'd prefer a hardtail).

20 years ago. Hmmm. 1999.

Probably a Foam Green Strat with a maple neck and tortoise guard, in a [naturally] worn nitro finish...before such things as "Relics" were all over the place, when factory nitro finishes were rare on Fenders, when very few people were out there doing "proper" old school finish work, and when the Internet was pretty new to me. In short, what I wanted was pretty far from possible to obtain.

Now? Although I am mostly a Fender player, my holy grail is the right '54 style Les Paul Custom. I would like to get one of the '72 reissue versions, or a a VOS Historic model.

Second in line would be a Gibson Barney Kessel Custom signature model.
