Pot size / push-pull with 2 tones

  1. I'm trying to change out a pot on my Schecter S1+, and the one I purchased from Sweetwater doesn't fit in the hole. There are two volumes and one tone. It's the tone hole. The other two holes (and all three pots I bought) are 3/8". The tone hole is bigger than 5/16", but smaller than 3/8" (6/16). What the hell? There was an A500k pot in that hole before if that matters. I don't see shaft diameters listed on pots listed on Stewmac or Sweetwater.
  2. The guitar was originally a 2 volume, 1 tone, "Duncan Designed" HH setup. I just purchased a the Duncan Jazz Neck Humbucker, and I'm leaving the old bridge pickup in. Is there a reason not to switch to a push-pull coil split for both on the volume, with 2 tone pots? It seems like common sense to me to have two tones over 2 volumes, especially since it appears to me that each pickup should go with a different value cap.
I shielded the pickup cavity already in preparation for the coil split.

Welcome to the forum!

The different pot hole is something you find in non-USA made guitars. Generally, we just use a reamer to expand the hole for the new pot size. Your wiring would work fine. I like the 2 tone/1 volume setup with a push/pull to split, but really, it is just a personal opinion. Many others might like 2 volumes, 1 tone.

You can also use a 3/8" (if that's the size) drill bit and run it slowly backwards while slowly applying pressure. I have never had any issues with the backwards drill bit.
