Pot value question

Quick question for the wiring gurus out there.

I`m a big fan of the jazz neck pickup and am trying it out in a Gibson Explorer. Never played it in an all mahogany guitar before and it feels a bit `stiff` for lack of better words. Doesn`t feel as dynamic as before, not as bright and clear.

Am I hearing the difference between a 300k volume pot (stock gibson) and 500k CTS volume pot in my other guitar (LP style)?

Re: Pot value question

A 300k tone pot would have smoother highs,so it could be lack of a maple top.I had a jazz in a all mahogany lp with 500k pots and it was a jazz neck.I put 59's with 50's wiring in and it worked great with that guitar.

Re: Pot value question

Recently a friend complained that his ax lacked highs, so I tried 50ś wiring http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/tonefreaks/558-wiring-library.html which wasn't enough, then I tried the no-mud mod http://www.seymourduncan.com/blog/tips-and-tricks/mod-squad-muddy-sounding-neck-pickup/ , it still wasn't enough so I took out his 500k pot and installed a 1000k CTS pot.
If that ain't enough we will do some mag swapping, starting with an A8, if that don't cut it we will go ceramic.
