POTS>>> IS WOOD THE BEST???

I've seen some nice looking wooden knobs on great custom guitars and I'm wondering what you guys think the absolute best sounding pots are for volume/tone and the rest?
After seeing some wooden switches/knobs I figured I'd give them a try unless someone said they actually affected the way the strat will sound in a negative way.
Is wood okay there? Any real difference? I'm looking for the absolute best quality and sound - looks come second but man that wood stuff looks nice there!

Thanks!

Wait. so you want to know if a wooden tone knob or switch tip vs metal or plastic affects tone?

Yes, I like the look of the wooden knobs and switches but want to know if it has a real effect on the sound a strat will produce? If nice or no effect then I'll go with wooden knobs........but if it has some adverse effect I'll reconsider. The wooden ones look real nice...

Thanks!

It will make as much difference to your tone as the difference between sneakers or Sunday-go-to-meeting shoes do.

If no effect why aren't wooden knobs as popular as they look?
No problem - maybe not too many people want to leave their plastic vintage pots?
Cool....

Re: POTS>>> IS WOOD THE BEST???

people use them because they look cool. THAT'S IT. NO OTHER REASON.

How is a small wooden knob sitting on a pot shaft going to adversely affect tone? Did you consider the entire body is made of wood?

I would venture that > 95% of people have no vintage parts on their guitars and that 0% have plastic pots

My mistake for some reason thought those parts were ordinarily plastic?
Wood it shall be! Thanks!

The switch tips and knobs are usually plastic but the switch and pots are metal regardless of which knobs you put on them. I'm sure you know that but the way you worded it suggested the pots/ switches themselves were made out of wood/plastic along with the tip/knob

And people wonder why wars are fought.

Everyone knows that metal switch tips and knobs weigh more than wood or plastic knobs and switch tips, and that more mass = more sustain and better tone.

I use deposits of meteorite for all my pots, knobs and switches. Gives me a tone that is out of this world. Maybe even out of this galaxy. I also use animantium pickups. Pretty awesome stuff

Re: POTS>>> IS WOOD THE BEST???

The reason why plastic is used is that its cheap to mould.

Not all people think wood looks better for knobs.

Re: POTS>>> IS WOOD THE BEST???

Wood has a much better aura than metal or plastic, the positives waves emanating from the wooden tone knobs would pass over the bridge, strings and pick ups, this would have a calming effect on your guitar allowing it to get down to the business of sounding good.
Peace, love and Mungbeans Brother.
