PREFERRED NECK/BODY WOODS?

Maple necks are listed as "bright" and Indian Rosewood neck wood is categorized as "warm" or "dark." What is your preferred neck wood and how much of a tonal difference does it seem to make?

Maple wood for guitar bodies is rated on the "bright" end while Mohogany is listed as much less bright and instead is much more warm. What's your preferred guitar body wood?

If you did include a neck inlay which wood would you prefer? If a guitar body laminate what selection of wood would you prefer?

Thanks!

Does it really matter?

do you not have any opinion of your own that you need to solicit everyone else's opinions so you can get a custom guitar that will please everyone else yet you have no idea what it is you want?!

this whole series of threads asking other peoples' opinions is just DUMB.

Read this and make up your own mind about what you want:

Thanks for the reference/site, it's unfortunately not available in my side of the world.
Would you at least be able to say for those playing much more rhythm that a "bright" neck and "warm" body would be a preferred combo to a "warm" neck and "bright" body?

Re: PREFERRED NECK/BODY WOODS?

Warmoth seems like a good source for most parts needed to turn a kit over to a guitar tech/luthier. Next step is where can someone wanting to hire a guitar luthier able to really make this work find such a person? Seems like most guitar luthiers actually performing the work as a business are either very backlogged or extremely expensive and selling parts of his own out of his shop. Are there any guitar luthiers actually building guitars that are able/ready to perform this type of work? It does appear that working with a luthier to build 3-4 of these over time (presuming the first project works well) is a great way to go - just need to find someone who is professional/skilled enough to make this happen and available to actually work on the first part of this project soon. Any references? Thanks!

You should head down to your local music store and just have a play round, Other peoples opinions really mean **** when it comes down to what sounds good to the individual.

I think what your looking for is a alder strat with a maple neck and rosewood fingerboard? or that could be me haha.

again, my opinions mean jack squat.

what matters is what you think.

Where do you live that it's blocked?

No.

Re: PREFERRED NECK/BODY WOODS?

Alder body maple neck and rosewood inlay will check that out!
Any good guitar techs/luthiers willing/able to do the work assembling the kit - maybe even making it better?

Thanks again!

The reason why you won't find a luthier to assemble the kit is because luthiers MAKE their guitars from scratch. Most luthiers aren't going to waste their time assembling a Warmoth.

Not trying to be mean, but very direct because we keep telling you the same thing. Either you don't understand what we're saying, or just flat-out ignoring us because it isn't exactly what you wanted to hear.

My best and simplest advice is:

1) Learn about how/why/what makes a guitar work. EVERY aspect.
2) Try guitars to see what you like/dislike
3) Be willing to assemble any kits you receive. This would be best because you're supposed to know what YOU want. Handing a kit you know barely anything about/what you want to some tech you've never done any business with is only going to annoy him and he'll just screw everything together and set it up to what he likes.

I see this happen all the time on forums, with angry customers saying "This well regarded tech sucks! I handed him a box a part and told him 'FIX IT NOA!' and when I got it back it SUCKED. It didn't play like how I wanted it to!"

"Well did you tell him what you want?"

Re: PREFERRED NECK/BODY WOODS?

Actually, that's not always the case. I've done a LOT of Warmoth builds for people over the years, but they wind up costing as much if not more than CS gits. You get what you pay for. Warmoth makes quality sheet (If you like CNS). AND you pay for my quality nitro finish. Just my .02-

Also to add -once you hang your shingle you have a Professional Reputation to maintain. You have to maintain your artistic integrity, and pay the bills at the same time. Often quite the conflict as it becomes a business..LOL

ANSWER - Parental home?!!!

The information pages of the Warmoth website should be accessible anywhere on the planet where there is Internet access. Would-be customers in some territories may be prevented from purchasing but anyone should be able to rifle through the catalogue.

Ah, yes. Catalogues!

When I was only knee high, there was no Internet to browse. Teenagers drooled over printed catalogues, fantasising about which models they might one day own.

Re: PREFERRED NECK/BODY WOODS?

You keep saying that you've played lots of guitars over the years. Surely you've played just about every combination of guitar/wood/hardware.....or heard music from every style that you'd like to emulate and seen what guitars they play.

Its really not as complicated as it seems. Pick a style of guitar you like the best and, if you're good enough, you'll be able to get it to do almost everything that you'd get any other guitar to do.....certainly if all you'll ever do with it is rhythm.
