Preferred Neck Construction (1 piece vs. shaft wood plus separate fingerboard wood)

Re: Preferred Neck Construction (1 piece vs. shaft wood plus separate fingerboard woo

My Charvel ProMod has a one piece maple neck that I like. The rest are all maple w/ rosewood boards. Both necks I have ordered from Warmoth have been Q-sawn maple w/ rosewood. I finished them in Tru-oil.

If you are looking for a Fender replacement I have also heard good things about USA Custom, but I have never ordered from them. Both of my custom necks were not Fender styled so I went with Warmoth. I'm happy with them.

Did 'ol Petey T sneak in your crib a have his way with that Strat? :D
You know that neck was F&%ed the day I put it on the guitar. I was a beautiful flame maple neck with a Brazilian board BUT whenever I played in G or A the truss rod would vibrate and rattle. It got progressively worse as time went on, so I finally took it to my Luthier to see what can be done about it. Looks like the anchor broke loose because the rod does nothing... fortunately it was playing ok, but bottom line is I have to order a new neck. Another $300 that I wasn't planning on spending! Oh well...

I feel fortunate - I almost lost a '75 Strat neck last week... Well - I was willing to get 'er fixed but not prepared for the extra $$. Actually mine sounded like the same sort of deal but my rod was threaded and was able to be slid back in and loctited into place.

Probably was screwed the day it was made.

I prefer vertical grain necks. Better stability, and better tone. As far as one or more pieces? Two or more pieces are going to be inherently more stable.

Strats sound really good with a one-piece. I would say go with Maple.
