Prepared Guitars?

I like finding new sounds, and specifically when I first heard the Metallica song "Wherever I May Roam", I was blown away by their use of the sitar, and didn't know what it was at first. I've been looking around online today, and seen some webpages where people discuss their prepared guitar techniques. One that jumped out at me right away was when someone described that by wrapping a piece of pipe cleaner around the strings near the bridge, it gives it a sitar like sound.

Do you guys have any prepared guitar techniques and do you wish to share?
