One thing that does bug me, are the speakers on the 10. They completely fart out when the volume gets past halfway. Totally unusable at that point. Its one thing when speakers are meant to complement a valve amp tone, but in a ss amp or modeller, the speakers should be able to stay clean and neutral throughout the volume range.

Update: The Fly does NOT take pedals well, at least not drive pedals. The amp completely folded when I tried to add a light overdrive to the sound. Work-around: I turned the gain up and then rolled back my volume pedal for non-solo/heavy sections. Works just fine.

Welll that stinks about the pedals.

True, but this is strictly for hobo rehearsals and dining room table practice ... once I have the songs down, I will have to move it to one of the big rigs and we will start the serious, in-studio rehearsals.

These ID thingies are pretty interesting. I tried the ID40 Stereo head today through a Blackstar 4x12 and it actually sounded excellent. And the price is just stupid low.
Almost brought it home in fact...
It's way quieter than 40 watts SS would make you believe though. Pushed all the way it's way quieter than both my amps.

Dug the tones from the ISF knob to the right side, meaning British sounds. A bit too thin on the American settings, but maybe that was the speakers, or having too many of them?
Maybe it would punch better through a 1x12 with a V30 or something.

Re: Pretty fly for a white guy -- new practice amp (Blackstar content)

Id40 is 20w per side, so it is a bit misleading.

My ID10 is 5w per side.

The full size 60/100 are very loud, nearly like tube watts. That said, I thought the big IDs did not sound as great through regular guitar speakers. Better through their matched ID cabs.

Re: Pretty fly for a white guy -- new practice amp (Blackstar content)

Interesting. I've never used an ID cab.

I always have the ISF the way British. American just gives the sound a disconnected feel.

Re: Pretty fly for a white guy -- new practice amp (Blackstar content)

On my id10, the only time I get to noon ish on the ISF is on the "warm clean" tone which is very much like a tweed bassman(or early Marshall). Otherwise I am on 3oclock to full on British for Crunch and Super Crunch.

Ben you might consider an upgrade to the core10. Its bigger physically yes, but handles pedals, is tweakable via the blackstar software, and there are alot of good tones. It is still plenty quiet as it is only 5w. Im sure it would be a better recording tool. And its only about 20 bucks more than the fly3.

I will try and record a clip for you tonight or tomorrow with and without pedals.

Thanks! That's really cool but this has to be small enough to fit into my work backpack and carry around the city.
Sounds like it takes pedals a LOT better than the Fly, though!!

Re: Pretty fly for a white guy -- new practice amp (Blackstar content)

Yeah, its not big but maybe a tad much for a backpack. About the size of a metal lunchbox, but a bit deeper.

Probably could fit into an empty bag, but not one filled with all my work stuff!
