Price for used Hiwatt?

What is a good price for a used hiwatt custom 20 combo in good condition? It has an upgrade alnico speaker and jj tubes. What i'm not shure about is how old it is. It doesn't have the metal toggle switches for the on/off in stead it has a red plastic rocker switch. This makes me think that it might be from the eighties, but i'm not shure. i have heard things that the quality during that time was not so great. So whats a fair price?

The Hiwatt you are looking at is relatively new made in China. It's no guarantee it will sound good or even like a Hiwatt.

Re: Price for used Hiwatt?

Find out if the tag on the back says "Biacrown" or "Hylight"....those were the "GOOD" ones.

Also, see if the speaker says "FANE"...they're crucial to the Hiwatt sound.

The mid 80s & 90s versions aren't worth a damn......I hear the newer ones are pretty nice though.

Bottom line: If you're able to play it beforehand & it sounds good to you...ROCK ON !!! :headbang:

As for price...depends on the model. The Biacrown heads go for $800 & up...Hylights are a little more. The SA212 was a somewhat rare combo & might be pricey if in good shape.

Re: Price for used Hiwatt?

i could of bought an early 90's imported Hiwatt 100 watt head a few years ago for about $450 Canadian.... it had channel switching... i assume it was from overseas somewhere... i heard someone tried to start up Hiwatt for a few years and this was one of the amps from that version of the company.... could have my facts wrong but that was what i was told..

I figure if the combo you are looking at sounds good why not try it if the price is right... but like the others said it could be a modern sounding amp not a Hiwatt sound we all know and love
