Pro Tools 11 sync problem

Re: Pro Tools 11 sync problem

That was a pretty unprofessional reaction.

I thought so too...

It is a common error to assume that one's personal set-up and preferences are applicable everywhere. Many settings are made once and forgotten ever after.

I thought (I guess incorrectly) that if I got audio files it'd make things simpler. I've worked with guitarists, where I just gave them a .wav file of a song that's say 3:30 long and they returned a 3:30 .wav with their guitar part: I never ran into an issues importing those files into PT (and some came from things like Garageband). I really didn't anticipate these issues.

Thanks to everyone who assisted...

Re: Pro Tools 11 sync problem

OK, so the guy (kind of sheepishly) provided replacement audio files.

Should I open a new session file and import?

Or open his session file (which he provided with the messed up files) and replace the audio files with the new ones?

I think the latter option is advisable given that there's a tempo change, etc.

Re: Pro Tools 11 sync problem

Try (and save) both. See what happens.

Re: Pro Tools 11 sync problem

Thanks--good idea. Will try this tonight.

What I thought was really weird was that when this session took place in January I had brought 6 samples (.wav files of songs from CDs) to just give him an idea of drum and piano sounds I liked and wanted.

He loaded these into Pro Tools and whenever I open his .ptx file it asked for these...pretty annoying.

I thought it was odd these were in the clips list in the session file.

Hopefully my involvement with this guy is over...

Re: Pro Tools 11 sync problem

So there's a piano file, a drum kit file, a brushes kit file, and a tympani file

I loaded the new files and while they all align properly two of the files are incomplete.

OY.

Re: Pro Tools 11 sync problem

As far as your DAW is concerned, those rough audio examples of yours are part of the "Assets" of the project. It will always expect/require them to be accessible in order to relaunch the project. This will remain the case unless or until you remove those unwanted files from the project.

Regarding the other issue. Do you have one good/complete copy of every audio file required to assemble the project? If so, can you gather these together into a single version of the project and save it separately from all previous versions?

I was able to remove them.

That's what I've done so far; I'm just waiting for one file the guy said he'd fix.

I did not know that he actually had to reopen the session and rerecord certain parts (that's how parts were omitted). I have no idea why...

Thanks for all your help. I think this will be all sorted by tomorrow and I can proceed with my end of it.

Re: Pro Tools 11 sync problem

Hopefully it will get resolved soon and then you can move on.
Question: was this a collaborator you paid through a service? I have been collaborating with muscians that way for the last year or so and have had nothing but great experiences.

Question: was this a collaborator you paid through a service?

It was someone I met last summer who was working at a music store at the time. I'm really happy with what he did in terms of playing piano and programming drums (I was very specific in terms of what I wanted and he nailed it quickly in my view--this was not an expensive endeavor by any means). From that standpoint I'm satisfied. But getting the audio files for what he did has just been an annoying process. I think he's a decent musician, but very disorganized, particularly when it comes to things like file-naming conventions.
