Problem with a Duncan Designed single coil

Hi guys, new here and new to (try to) play in the entrails of a pup. I only heard good things about this forum, so here I am.

I have this Duncan Designed bridge single coil in my Squier Vintage Modified Tele. It's one with a dummy coil. A tech looked into it, thinking it was out of phase because it hummed and when he tried to reconnect it, it was dead. Did he kill it ? Not important. I want to salvage it if possible.

The red and black have a strong reading, but anything else, nothing. Maybe the red is the dummy coil ?

Here it is.

I'm puzzled by the copper filament going around the front of the base plate. It seem to connect both sides of each wires. Don't those wires go through the plate. If so, the filaments connect to themselves ?

The thread you see coming out of the left of the coil is from the tape, not copper.

So ... where do you think I should start ?

Thanks
