Problem with input jacks need advice

Re: Problem with input jacks need advice

In over 60 years of playing I have never had the problem you describe. I have always wrapped the cord between the neck strap and strap button as you have said you do. If you actually do that, there is no way the cord can just fall out. There is something else going on that you have not told us.

Re: Problem with input jacks need advice

Maybe it's because you're using an "input jack" instead of an output jack.

Problem with input jacks need advice

The only time I experienced this is when the cable end didn’t actually seat all the way in. The tip clicked, but the body was putting resistance on the outer strain relief portion of the cable and dislodging the cable with a little movement. The tab inside wasn’t actually bending at all. Changing to a cable with a narrower strain relief barrel or a slightly longer tip solved it for me.

If you’re using a 90 degree end, the body could be pushing the cable out by the strain relief portion.

Try rotating the output jack 180°, see if that does the trick.

I had a guitar once that I hadn't changed the Jack to switchcraft yet and had it start doing that . come to find out ~ the hot/Tip connector was kicking against the wood weirdly ( when made-up ) I holesawed the hole a bit larger inside and put in the switchcraft + No problem after 10 yrs. thereafter . <-- Not referring to Alvin Lee ( although He would've loved to change the world : ) R.I.P

Too bad. I loved 10 yrs After, Alvin was an amazing guitarist.

Indeed Doc , Played with alot more substance than the overrated even back then ( meaning like , 1st time seeing him at Long beach Arena ~ early - Mid 70's . thought Maybe Rory Gallagher played that Show as well ?

Now that would have been a guitar hero face off. Wonder if there is a recording?

if there were any , it wouldn't be from cuttin' heads ~ just documentation of the performances ( I doubt it unless locked away in the archives like Many, Many others ) I would assume . those were some of my early guitar foundation guys from vinyl along with the others I always mention ( like George Lynch, Keef , Johnny W., Hendrix , Chuck Berry , Eddie , M Schenker , G Tipton / K K Downing , etc. Also , Other Local Guys I grew up Around as Lynch (already mentioned) , Gary Turner , Alan Mirikitani ( B.B. Chung King) , Russ Miller , Bob Bennet + Larry , Joshua Periah , etc.

Re: Problem with input jacks need advice

I replaced the jack on my explorer about a week ago. Because my cable kept falling out. I took the jack out a few times and bent the prong in and it worked fine few a few days. Then started doing the same thing. So I replaced the jack and it worked fine but after a few days it has started doing the same thing as the first jack. I’m using the same cable that I have been for a year. And never had any problems with the jacks before.
I loop my cable through my strap and strap button to keep downward tension off of it. Any advice will be appreciated. Having to remove the jack every few days to bend the tab back is getting old.
Where you plug the cord into the guitar is actually an "output jack" not an input.

Re: Problem with input jacks need advice

I never thought accidentally calling an output jack an input would be such a big thing lol. If so I would have edited it.
