Problem with my 'new' Old amp.

Hey guys.

A few weeks ago I posted a thread as regards buying a Vintage amp Vs buying a modern Re-Issue of it. Well, I plumped for the original head last week :)

It's a 1973 Carlsbro 50 Top 50w head, with 3 EL34s, I'm unsure of the pre-amp valves and 4 controls (Treble, Middle, Bass and volume :D) The amp had been re-valved and serviced prior to my buying it :)

I used the amp last week at a Charity concert my band played and the amp sounded superb. It was very clean and clear with a bell-like tone to single notes.

I used the amp again at a gig on Monday night and about halfway through our set the amp started ticking!

I unplugged everything from the input of the amp, to get rid of as many variables as I could (leads, guitar earth problems, pedal problems, my wrist watch going through the guitar pickups etc) and even with nothing plugged into the amp it still ticked.

I just wondered if anyone has any idea what may have been causing this ticking and how I can get rid of it?

Thanks for any info anyone can offer.

Craig

I had this problem in my galaxie after I put JJ's in...I swapped out the preamp tube and was cool...

my local tech told me it was prob microphonic...

I would start simple, pre tubes is a good recomendation. Filter caps a poss. I had a Traynor that was jostled in shipping and it had a bad 'motorboat 'effect. It ended up being a bad solder joint. Been fine since. My stramp had an odd high frequency knock and it ended up being the grid stopper resistors off of the power tubes. Al things were a simple fix, it is just tracking down the issue. Google is a godsend for that type of stuff... Saved me lottsa bucks.

Cool amp BTW. I love my Cbro!

Thanks for the posts guys.

The amp is going back to the shop tomorrow so the tech that serviced and re-valved it can give it another look over.
