Problems problems problems...

So I got an EMG 81 and 60 wired 2 volumes/1 master tone. The first problem is that they only work if the guitar input cable is plugged halfway into the jack. If I push it in all the way they suddenly lose volume and sound very weak. Halfway...amazing! All the way...weak. I've tried swapping jacks, cables, amps, etc. The problem persists.

The second problem is that neither pickup responds to the volume at all. Even if I turn them all the way down, they are both still at full volume.

The third problem is that the 3 way selector switch doesn't respond to the position. At bridge, I can still hear neck, and vice versa. It's like the pickups are in the middle position all the time. The only way I can isolate the pickups is to unplug them from the red slots in the terminal buss, and then the volume pots still don't respond.

One more thing is that on EMG's diagram there is a black, red, green, and white wire coming from the selector switch. On mine there is only a red, blue, and green wire, and each of them has a white wire coming out of it. I'm confused. When I put the blue and green wires into the neck and bridge, with the red wire in ground, it sounds good but as soon as I take the red out of ground and put it into O like the diagram shows, it sounds really weak like when the jack is fully plugged in. I'm just guessing the red is the ground wire but still can't tell if the blue or green is the neck or bridge because I can't control the volume. And I have no idea what the white wires coming out of each wire are for.

On the plus side, the tone pot works great!

I installed the 57/66 set in my other guitar a few years ago and it was a breeze...probably because the wires matched EMG's diagram. This has given me nothing but a headache. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Problems problems problems...

I should add that I tried wiring it with 1 volume and 1 tone but still the volume won't go down.

Re: Problems problems problems...

Here are the wires from the selector switch too. No black, just green, red, and blue with white coming out of each527A5B2E-25BB-4A7E-A382-DC3C62D23DAC.jpg55D0E8BF-B798-4552-A954-7E5903DC81C9.jpg

Re: Problems problems problems...

thanks

if poss, a photo of your wiring would also be useful so we can see more clearly what youre meaning about the switch wires...

EDIT: Ah sorry, I was a bit late on that :D

Re: Problems problems problems...

The bare wires from the blue, green and red cables coming from the switch are black on the diagram.

The white wire from the blue cable is red on the diagram.

The white wire from the green cable is green on the diagram.

The white wire from the red cable green is white on the diagram.

Actually blue and red are reversed. My mistake. It's working great now. The switch solved the jack problem too. Thanks so much for your help Gregory. Guitar sounds brutal now.
