Hi,
I got a LTD eclipse, factory-equipped with two EMG 81, Toggle, 2Vol, 2Tone.
As I'm not too satisfied with the sound anymore I thought of trying the 18 volts mod an opened the cavity. As the battery has a seperate cavity I never had a Look... What I saw didn't make me too happy! Ok the guitar is working correctly but the soldering isn't done too well. First one Question: I have three pots, they are all the same " 15A 25K 421S" written on each and they have all a little "T" on the back, could mean tone... So does EMG use the same pots on tone as for volume? If yes what does that T mean then?
Second: All the cables coming from the toggle are one wired and separately shielded, is this necessary? Normally I would use a cable with 3 wires surrounded by one shield, much easier to solder and not everything totally crowded with cables. okay there will be short connections of 1-2 inch between the pots that are not shielded the, but is this necessary. I had no problems doing that with passives, so why should the EMGs need.
The whole cavity is sprayed with Graphite and the covers are full of foil on the inside, thought this is not recommended for EMGs.
I think I'll replace the whole circuit, when I have some time!
Looking forward for your help, thanks
Don
