progress pix, finishing a cab

Curly

Moe's Bluesman
I thought some of you might like to see progress pix of my head cabinet for my custom amp. It's nitro over an amber dye on curly maple; the pics are after the first coat of nitro.

first the raw cab:

WOW...the wood in that cab looks better than the wood in a lot of high end guitars that I've seen.

Congratulations.

Re: progress pix, finishing a cab

thanks kindly,
this has been a long process ... I think I ordered the wood back at the first of the year

I wanted to demonstrate how maple is transformed by the finish to display more 3 dimensional shimmer ("chatoyance"). At this stage the finish is satin, but when it's done and buffed out, it will likely shine like glass.

Re: progress pix, finishing a cab

That is gorgeous. Can't wait to see the finished pix. Do you have your own workshop in the garage?

Do you have your own workshop in the garage?

I work for a civil engineering firm, but the owner of our company is a wood worker, and we have a large workshop with most of the tools you need.

I should've mentioned that a friend at work is finishing the cab, which he also put together for me.

Re: progress pix, finishing a cab

I can only imagine all the cool things I could make if I had a workshop like that. Apartment living hampers my creativity.:(

beautiful, wouldn't like to be chucking that in the back of the van each night though!
