Project fullMap

Re: Project fullMap

hmmmm

Oh my woodness my guitar has a stud. My mistake, not to worry.

Testing testing

Its not setup at all but that didn't stop me plugging her in an blasting some tunes out. Straight off the bat i feel i may be on to a good design to accomadate the extended range. :9: Days like this make me smile.

I noticed the pickups isnt mounted center so i will have to plug those holes and re drill them.

Forgot to come check it out till now... DAMN! Looks great! Are you going to recess that jackplate?

Re: Project fullMap

What are the benefits of a flat fretboard?

Well i guess the benefits are no different from say a 14'' radius compared to 7''. What i do find is that it makes no difference to me especially with chords and scales, but i do find tapping easier and bending. But you knwo i havent played it all that much yet and its still poorly setup. so i will give it a few weeks i think.

Re: Project fullMap

This build keeps getting better, can't wait to see the finished product, let me know how the flat fretboard works out eventually. I can't wait to try out my Warmoth neck. I've never played a compound radius before.

Lookin' good. Blowing holes in walls with that X2N?

Re: Project fullMap

Just letting you know that I'm not missing any of the posts on this thread. Great project!

And Im curious as hell as how the flat neck board will feel, it elimnates the problem of bends choking out and with thin strings (0.9s) it should be comfortable. IMHO the 9.5 radius used on Fenders was only necesarry when the guitarist acompanied the soloist with 0.13 gauge strings. Now we are the soloist and 0.11 strings are considered thick! I hate 9.5 radiuses, Gibsons 12 radious is waaay better, not to mention IBNZ 14 radious or Bernie Ricos 20 radius. And they should all be compound. The flatter the better, so why not go 100% flat?

Thanks for watching the thread btw.

I just got a lathe so i can make some custom knobs. yeh $50 dollar gmc special.

i have been playing it every day since i got the strings on and i cannot for the life of me fault the flat fretboard. It makes not one single difference to my playing. I am going to take it to a friends place in a few weeks and get his opinion on it. I still have to to some more fretwork as i am a bit of a rookie and have some fretbuzz due to a high fret. I ditched the zero fret because it was pissing me off.

Thanks for letting us know dude! If you do a lot of chords no fatigue at all?

Not for me but i play more lead style stuff. i guess i can say its good until i am blue in the face but the only way you will know is if you try it for yourself. fretboard radius is already a very subjective topic :9: i got another hour play in and i managed to fix my fretbuzz.

Re: Project fullMap

Progress has been slow because i was playing the guitar for a few weeks and i have been building a website for myself.

I made a small nut shelf wall thingy, It was a bit of a after thought but it will be fine because the graphic will cover it.

I didn't really want the ''soviet union of russia'' running over the fretboard so i have changed my mind on placement to include Tokyo haha
Headstock, Note: You will have to use your imagination for now

My pincers showing where the fretboard ends.

]12th fret

My $50 gumtree lathe. No tools yet but she runs nice

Guardian of the lathe.
