PRS bridge pickup?

Swapped my PRS Zach Myers pickups for a 59 neck and a JB bridge. Neck works great, but the JB is just a bit too "shrill" for me. I play mostly clean, ambient, heavy reverb/delay rythm church stuff and wondering if the 59/custom hybrid would work better? If not, any other suggestions?

I really like the combination of the Lil' 59 neck turned on with a JB Jr on my strat. Anyway to get that combo sound in a bridge pickup on the PRS?

I just put the hybrid in an sg and it is beautiful. Nice and full amd delicate when you pick soft. Turns into a gritty, fat, thick, aggressive voice when you dig into it. I mostly play ambient stuff with mild distortion with that particular pickup. It does cleans very well too

Are you up for magnet or pot swapping? Lots of folks say a 250k pot smooth out the top end. I personally like a UOA5 magnet swap.

I have a set of 59's in my favorite PRS. I did replace the polished A5 magnets with Roughcast A5. Seems to smooth the treble and add texture to the mids so they don't sound so scooped.

The JB does sound nicer with 250k pots but I don't think I'd like the 59n with 250k pots.

A set of Seth Lovers without covers is in my other favorite PRS.

Very different sound from 59's. More of a raw sizzle to the mids.

I think of the Seths and PEarly Gates as being great for rock and ZZ Top type music.

And of the 59's as being better at Jazz and traditional BB King style blues.

But either pickup can be used for any style of music. The 59 can certainly rock!

I can change pickups and pots, but don't really want to change pots. I have no idea on magnets, watched some videos but not an interest atm. I'd rather swap pu's.

Update: Went with the 59/Custom and LOVE it. It has the mids to balance out the top end and gets me the tone I was looking for. Now what to do with the JB? ;) Thanks for the input.

Wish I had a guitar to try this pickup in. I'm very happy with what's in all of my guitars and don't want to make any changes.

But I'm a big fan of the 59b and also used a Custom for about a year or so in a dual humbucker Strat, with a PGn as the neck pickup.

I can enjoy the ceramic sound of the Duncan Custom but it also has a little bit of a "robot" voice (not really...well...sort of) and eventually I always return to the more "organic" sound of alnico 2 or 5 and PAF style pickups.

So the 59/Custom uses an alnico 5 magnet, the screw coil of a 59b and the slug coil of a Custom.

I'd like to try one.

Not to say that the 59/Custom isn't everything it was ever claimed to be, but is there any product that ever got a less than glowing review on premierguitar?

I was about to pull the trigger on the '59/Custom Hybrid for my PRS SE, but I decided to go for the tried and true '59B. This is actually the second '59B this guitar has in it. The first one was a nickel-covered one that measured 7.8K. This is an uncovered black one that measures 8.5K. I'm not sure if I got a mislabeled '59N the first time around, but this new one sounds louder, brighter, and meaner! Love this '59B in my PRS SE. Still curious about the '59/Custom Hybrid, though.

At 7.8k and the difference in tone you're describing, your suspicion that it was a 59N sounds reasonable to me.
