PRS McCarty or Custom 22?

Re: PRS McCarty or Custom 22?

I've played both and the McCarty is the best PRS I've played.

However, I did actually play a Singlecut that blew away my Les Paul Standard, so I can see why Gibson is suing ;)

I actually can't stand the Singlecut and would take my LP over it in a heart beat but that is me. The McCarty feel great as do the CU22s. The onlt McCarty I could find today was a soap bar model. The regular HB model had sold yesterday!

Does anyone knoe if the wide fat neck is different on the CU22 than the Mc? They feel different.

Re: PRS McCarty or Custom 22?

Well, I spent much of the weekend playing guitars and came to the conclusion that the CU22 and McCarty are the best PRS models in my opnion. I hated the singlecut, but maybe that is because I tend to compare it to LP Standard which I find play better and sound better. Something felt really awkward and weird about the Singlecut and I didn't like the tone.
Now the CU22 and McCarty are sweet guitars and way more comfy than the SC. I played two Hardtails but didn't like either as I could get past the neck and didn't care much for the acoustic tone so I never plugged 'em in to an amp. Again, this is just my opinion so please don't take offense! This is ALL subjective.....one man's gold is another's junk. I really did not like the neck on the hardtail and that ruined my opinion from the start. I am liking fatter and fatter necks these days and the HT felt thin to me, especially next to the PRS W/F and the LP 50s neck. I prefer my Dean Evo.
I ended up buying a mint 2003 McCarty.

Wide fat necks are the same on CU22 and Mc Carty but I also sometimes feel that they are different.
It's maybe due to the different thickness of the body and the different peghead angle between those axes.

Rich,

Congratulations on the new guitar - sorry that I did not come back to you but I think you made the right decision. Any chance for some pics? Perhaps another thread. It's a funny thing but I like my necks thicker (although I still love my strats) now how about changing those pups in there!!!:32:

I think I'd need a site to host my pics. I'd be glad to send some through email once I get her back from her set up at the shop.

Re: PRS McCarty or Custom 22?

I personally like a wide thin neck (w/ Trem system) on the PRS guitars. The McCarty is a great guitar, and so is a well set-up CU22. I loved my CU22, but preferred the wide-thin neck in the end. I sold it a little while back - the neck was too big.

Rich,

The one that I use and recommend (its free) is www.photobucket.com - easy to use and you can create your own albums, link pics etc. Check the link in my signature which just shows some of my guitars. One of the great things is that instead of attaching pics to e-mail you can send people the links - just like this one.

Wise choice. I was playing my CU22 last night, and I think I sometimes take for granted just how killer it is. Mine has a wide-thin neck, which should be a bit thin for my tastes, but I have to say it is a superb playing neck, easily the best playing medium/slim neck out there.
