I have been telling you for years, PRS is going to be the next Fender / Gibson.

Re: PRS SE Acoustics

Pretty impressive specs, looks awesome.

The PRS SE Angelus strives to provide the finest instrument in its price point. Made with high quality components, including a solid back and solid spruce top, a bone nut and saddle, and PRS designed SE tuners, this model has a rich, resonant, and responsive tone. The SE Angelus shares the same proprietary bracing pattern and several distinct construction features as our acclaimed Maryland-made acoustics, and the trademark bird inlays and traditional PRS headstock design clearly portray PRS quality. The SE Angelus will be offered in both a “Standard” and “Custom” package. The Angelus Standard model will include mahogany sides, a solid mahogany back, and a rosewood fretboard and bridge. The Angelus Custom model will include rosewood sides, a solid rosewood back, and an ebony fretboard and bridge.
The SE Angelus will be available in very limited quantities in late 2011 and will be a purely acoustic instrument. The product line will expand to include models with built-in pickup systems in early 2012.

Re: PRS SE Acoustics

I think he means in the sense that they provide almost everything, from electrics to acoustics to amplifiers, within pretty much every price bracket, etc. Like a one stop guitar solution brand.

Gibson and Fender do that.

Gibson and Fender do that.

Exactly. They now make:

high end electrics, acoustics, and amps
low end electrics, acoustics, and amps

and also strings, cables, etc.

Don't forget pickups....

Maybe I'm old school, but I prefer a company that specializes in making one particular thing and making that one thing great.

That's not to say those companies don't make great products..... Rather I just like when a company focuses all their attention on one thing.

That's fine.

Paul Reed Smith, on the other hand, wants to be a global power in the musical instrument market, and he's doing it.

You need an Etsy store. PRS wants to be on the New York Stock Exchange.

The American dream has many flavors, and I can't think of a better story (or model) than what PRS has done --- start out working hard, hustling, fighting tooth and nail to get people to try your products, make more and more of them, never compromising quality, just working hard, then slowly, slowly, slowly expand into other surefire ways to get your products into more peoples' hands, all while maintaining your reputation for quality.

I think it's incredible what he's done, and that he is a GREAT capitalist.

No doubt.

Would love to see them take the Gibson approach and make a studio version of some of their models ala 22, 24, etc. Somewhere in between their standards and the SE line.

Re: PRS SE Acoustics

I thought for sure I was going to like the Custom sound better, but the Standard actually sounds better balanced to my ears. Needless to say, I really, really want one of these things. The USA model PRS Acoustics have been retardedly expensive and it's nice to see (what I'm assuming) is going to be an affordable version now. I can't wait to try these things out at my local GC. Seriously, how great do these acoustics sound? I thought I would only be able to settle for a Martin D-18GE, but this sounds so darn good for a fraction of the price that I may have to forego that other plan.

Martin and Taylor by default......but, I can't wait to see these. I keep my mind open till I try something. Then, my mind is made up instantly.

Re: PRS SE Acoustics

The Custom sounds a little boomy to my ears.

I know a lot of people are turning on PRS but they do what they do really well and the entire SE line is looking like the best bang for the buck on the scene.

Re: PRS SE Acoustics

From a Premier Guitar post on Facebook:

PRS announced their SE line of acoustics at Experience PRS "11. This is an Angelus and it has a Sitka spruce top and either mahogany or East Indian rosewood back and sides. The MAP for the mahogany is $650 and the rosewood is $750

Re: PRS SE Acoustics

With MAP at 650 / 750, they should "street" lower than that.

The MAP of the Epiphone Les Paul Custom I just got is $1000

Re: PRS SE Acoustics

the prs experience this weekend has BaM buzzing with guys gushing love for these - seems both the mahogany and rosewood models are excellent, just owing to taste which guys like more

i'll check em if/when i am in the market for an acoustic
