Psychedelic blues strat?

Re: Psychedelic blues strat?

Thanks again,

With that kind of comment, I guess I'm going to have to give those surfers a shot.

The Surfers are the ultimate alnico 5 Strat pickup and the Tex Hots are the ultimate alnico 2 Strat pickup, IMO. Lew

Sorry, I can't stay in the S-S-S camp, but here's my psychedelic strat just for the ooglers.

Re: Psychedelic blues strat?

This might be a stupid question, but what is that connected to your bridge?

It's a Roland guitar synth pickup. The others are: neck=duncan jazz with an A2 magnet, middle=stock fender, bridge=Gibson 498t I took out of my Les Paul when I put in Phat Cats. The 498t just kills for glass slide playing in this axe.

Re: Psychedelic blues strat?

Depending on your magnet preference (A2 vs A5) and your budget, you really can't go wrong with: SSL1/Custom, APS/Twangbanger, Texas Hot/TH Bridge or Surfer/Surfer Bridge. The SSL-1's will be the brightest and snappiest being full strength A5 and the Texas Hots should be the warmest and softest being aged A2.

Re: Psychedelic blues strat?

I want to eventually replace my stock pickups on my mim poplar strat. Can I still use ssl-1s for a vintage tone with the poplar or should I get something warmer to offset the bright guitar?

What fretboard?

I would think for vintage tone you'd want some surfers or texas antiquity hots. Granted, alnico ii magnets sound vintage to my ears, so I'd recommend the alnico ii pro single coils (I have some on my lite ash stratocaster). If you're worried about your guitar being bright, these will definitely be darker (yet still vintage output) than the Vintage Staggered or Vintage Flat.

I dunno, bro. What does the Tone Wizard say?
