Psychedelic Effects

Well in my current playing style, I am longing for some new effects. I am currently considering EHX(One of my favorite pedal brands) for effects. I am looking for Spacey, swelling, phased out etc.... Any recommendations?

Re: Psychedelic Effects

Getting some swirly stuff is a good start; phasers, flangers, delays, Uni-Vibes and their ilk, but try new things too. Fuzz, distortion, pitch shifting, looping & all combinations. Part of the psychedelic thing is about coming up with new & jarring sounds so experimentation is key.

Re: Psychedelic Effects

Psychedelic = Electro-Harmonix

Basically, any sort of modulation will work. Particularly stuff like flange, phase, Vibe, ect....

Tremolo, volume swells, ring mods, delay, reverb, fuzz, octave fuzz, Octavia's, anything used by Hendrix.

But the real key to a good psychedelic is layers and groove. If what you're playing ain't got no groove, then there's nothing to build more layers of sound on. It's the interplay of the layers that grab the imagination and pull the mind along for the ride*

* usually with the assistence some hallucinogenic. If you haven't tried hallucinogenics you may have trouble grasping the concept I just mentioned. If you have tried hallucinogenics and still fail to understand that concept, you need to listen to some Funkadellic.

...or as my kind of doctor would say, "Double the Dose!"

Re: Psychedelic Effects

i use tons of delay, reverse and gated reverb, Ebow, and your volume knob.

Re: Psychedelic Effects

For me, all things in moderation. There's no bigger beating to me than a guitarist who uses an overabundance of modulation effects with one or more of them used on every tune. I guess that there are a very few guys who can use different combinations of effects on every tune and make it work, but they're the rare exception, IMO.

I am already using a Fuzz as my main tone right now, along with my amps built in trem sometimes.

My playing, as of right now is focused souly on the "groove" because the type of music I play and I just prefer songs that have alot of groove. As far as EHX(As I said was probably the best option) What are some of your more preferred ones? And as for the hallucinogene's, no I haven't tried them but I get what your saying.

Re: Psychedelic Effects

moogerfooger MURF pedal. i bought one last month. does a lot of whacked stuff. envelope filter, tremolo, phasing, swells, and just plain weird sci fi bleeping and blurping. check it out on the moogmusic webpage. they have a bunch of sound clips. the moogerfooger phaser sounds unbelieveable too. happy spacing!

Thing about the Moog's though is the price, last time I checked they were on the high side of 300$ ?

EDIT: Damn, I just checked out the Moog phaser. You were right about that one.
