By it's nature, actual wires as opposed to contacts on a rigid board would offer more flexibility and should reduce it's tendancy to break. However, aside from dropping a 90lb amp down a flight of stairs, I don't think there's many cases where you'd be exerting the forces on a PCB to make it break if it is well designed and built. I wouldn't worry too much about them.
The tone, however, I'm entirely unqualified to debate other than just basic electronics theory.
