By it's nature, actual wires as opposed to contacts on a rigid board would offer more flexibility and should reduce it's tendancy to break. However, aside from dropping a 90lb amp down a flight of stairs, I don't think there's many cases where you'd be exerting the forces on a PCB to make it break if it is well designed and built. I wouldn't worry too much about them.

The tone, however, I'm entirely unqualified to debate other than just basic electronics theory.

This debate bores me because it's like comparing carburetors to fuel injection.
I'm quite sure I'd like driving a new sports car just as much as an old muscle car.

Take my Wall of Tonal Delight for example. LOL Right now, the only amp I own that's PTP is the Matchless Chieftain. The Bogner is PCB and is just as quiet and fat sounding. I don't even care anymore. If an amp sounds great, I like it. If not, bye bye.

if it sounds good, play it. if it doesn't, play it until you can get something you do like or live with what you have if you don't care all that much.

I worked for a company that made sidewinder missles years ago, the missiles had PCB mounted components, the old ones even had a vacum tube mounted to one of the boards - the boards had to be able to withstand 40g's, they were designed to withstand 50 and not one ever failed a destructive test to see if they could handle the load. A properly designed PCB is just about indestrcutable under most conditions (non would pass a sledge hammer test, but then neither would a turret board).

i sound stupid but o well. that's what i came to this board for (to get smarter). what's a sidewinder missile? i assume it's some sort of self propeled missile. i'm just not sure

I threw both my Shiva (PCB) & Plexi (PTP) amps down two flights of stairs - now neither works... so we have conclusive evidence that both PCB and PTP are unreliable. Neither sound good after violent collisions.
