Pulled the trigger. MESA Loanstar Special

SlyFoxx

Glossless
Been needing a new amp and I found it. This thing is the s***.

I don't need super high gain very often and my Boss GT-6 will cover that when necessary. But for lesser grind this thing really smokes. Not that you can't coax some pretty good grind when you jack the pre knobs but this puppy is a classic rock / hi gain blues machine. (Creed cover bands need not apply) The cleans are big and beefy with lots of swirl. Two reverb knobs let you tailor each channel and there is enough there for surf approved drench...the bright/warm switch is a nice addition.

The 30/15/5 watt settings for each channel all have their own character to be sure. I had no trouble getting 105dB at 8 feet from the amp with 5 watts and had plenty of master volume left to turn. The 15 and 30 watt settings had a tighter/bigger low end.

I'm used to two 12's and I'll admit the 1x12 configuration had a smaller foot print at the same volume but the difference is not too significant. The enclosure is pretty deep so that helps. For an out door gig I imagine I'd hook up a 2x12 to support the internal 12 but I'm sure I could survive without it.

The tones come pretty easily. I can't imagine not getting a usable sound from any decent guitar by putting every knob at 12 o'clock and letting 'er rip.

Mr. Smith has come up with a real winner here. It ain't cheap but it cost less than my PRS. Highly recommended...I give it the SlyFoxx kick ass piece of gear award with a dancing banana chaser.
