pup suggestions

Re: pup suggestions

the CC is just like the JB in that it will only work to the top of its ability depending on what guitar you put it in. You have to find with which guitar body, wood and amp that will compliment the pickup the best.

The JB sounds killer in an alder body "super" strat through a Marshall. Very articulate and defined with just the right amount of rawness to its sound. But the JB will sound a bit on the muddy and dull side in a mahogany LP. The mahogany just doesnt compliment the JB as well as the alder does.

With the CC......I have one in my maple dody kramer. The bright maple body compliments the CC just right so that it is not muddy but very chuncky sounding with rounded off highs but still articulate. The bright nature of the maple and the somewhat darker, smoother nature of the CC compliment eachother pefectly!

Re: pup suggestions

I had a Pacifica and it was a fantastic guitar - but it wasn't an LP, so now it's gone.

I'm gonna go DiMarzio on this. I really think the CC will be great in there - but I recommend this setup:

2 DM Area 61's for neck/middle and a PAF Pro for the bridge. Think of the PAF Pro as a CC-lite at around 10k. Very cool in the bridge of that Yamaha!

I assume this is a five way switch wired so position four is middle and bridge pup split?

Those diMarzios will be quiet too!

Re: pup suggestions

I totally agree with Aceman's suggestion of using the 61's but I think the Custom 5 is worth mentioning for the bridge. It's a pretty versatile pickup. I didn't know anything about it until I bought my USA Charvel two weeks ago. The highs are pretty sweet and not shrilly; it's got just the right amount of mid (not too much) to cut through. It may be the first time that I keep the stock pickups in a new guitar. I'm pretty happy with it so far.
