Pups for a Jackson Soloist

Hello, Newbie here, I don't know squat about pickups. Which is why I came to you Pro's for help. I have a 1988 Jackson Soloist, it is the sweetest playing guitar I have ever owned, but the problem is, I no longer play Metal. My thought was to sell it and get a Les Paul, which I love the sound of, but haven't found one even close to playing like my Jackson. I'm sure you know where this is heading, I am thinking of replacing the single coil at the neck and the Humbucker at the bridge. Trying to get the Les Paul sound, I know I can't get the true Paul sound because of the body and all. But can I get close?:thanks: What Pickups would you recommend? I am thinking the APS1 Alcino 2 Pro for the neck and a APH1 2 Pro or SHI '59 or Pearly gates for the bridge. I am not even sure it will wire in to the Jackson

I think for more of an LP tone you are going to have to get some hotter pickups to give it more beef.......

I have one of those guitars. I think the APH2 in the neck spot sounds like a plan. There's also a little 59 you might want to consider.

For the bridge you have a lot of choices including the Custom Custom, APH2, 59 and the PG. I have played a strat with a PG bridge and it's a nice choice. Custom Custom is nice as well because I think it warms up a bright guitar, but it's got more output as well.

If you want Les Paul sounds in a SS...go with a PATB-3. Will really thicken up the tone with PAF-ish goodness.

I had a JB in mine and it's hard to upgrade from that because the JB is a great pickup. However, I dropped a DSonic in there and it was perfect. Great clean, mid gain, and high gain tones. I can play Satriani stuff all day on my soloist now. I recommend keeping the JB or getting a DSonic.

I think he created an abrv. for Super Strat.

Let see, you want your 1988 Soloist to sound like a Les Paul.

I have 5 Les Pauls and they all sound different from each other, so maybe you should define the "Les Paul" tone.

Or better yet, just give examples of recordings of the tone you are after.

For the neck pickup, the lil 59 sounds like a good idea. It will be the closest thing to an LP neck pickup that you can get with a single coil. I don't have one myself, but my Bengal SL2H has a 59n and it sounds pretty awesome.

Seeing that your Jackson is from 1988, does it have the original Jackson pickups? Maybe you should take those out and check the backs to see what you have.

My Jackson Fusion Pro has a J50BC and it's a great LP sounding pickup.

i got my Fender Jaguar to sound very similar to my Gibson Les Paul Custom with a Pearly Gates in the neck and a CustomCustom in the bridge

Have installed the CustomCustom in a friend's Ibanez with sweet results as well...

CustomCustom and maybe a Li'l 59 in the neck? That's what I'd start with but...you're never gona get 100% there.

after about 7 years of trying to get my Fenders to sound like Gibsons i finally just bought a couple Gibsons :smokin: I still have my Fenders but the Les Paul sound has a lot more to do with the wood and design than the pickups...

Maybe a Custom Custom in the bridge and an Alnico Pro 2 in the neck. Maybe. Soloist's sound nothing like Les Pauls, but you're free to waste time. :D

I don't think an aps/cc set is gonna make it sound like a les paul, but it'll sound good, and still be kinda along the lines of what the guitar's intended to do.

I'd say probably your best option, it's not gonna make it sound like a les paul but it'll sound good
