pups for metal and post-punk

2008 Epiphone Les Paul Custom. Looking to upgrades pups. I like a phat low end tone for thrash metal and post-grunge nineties groove, but I'm also fond of eighties post-punk like Joy Division, Bauhaus, and The Cure. I'm thinking the Hot Rodded set would be good fit as it said to have a big low end, but also bright highs for post-punk. Thoughts?

Most punk players use medium output pickups. Anything in that arena should get you where you want to be. I used Whole Lotta Humbuckers in my Post-hardcore band. With the right gain, they will definitely get you over the top. But yes, I think the Hot Rodded Humbucker Set will get you where you want to be, especially if you plan on playing Joy Division, Bauhaus, and The Cure stuff on the neck pickup, you might even consider putting a push-pull split on the neck.

I agree with Securb. I had a Hot Rodded set in an singlecut, and it's very at home with grunge, thrash and heavy groove.

Having options to split both pickups individually would be definitely useful here, and it's not a problem wiring-wise. Even without splitting, I'd imagine the middle position would also come in handy as a lower otuput sound with some of JB's treble, but it's no single coil.

JB in series has more than enough low end IME, but it's not super clear and tight. Which is good for you I'd think, considering you're not into prog-fusion metal.
The Jazz neck, with a split option, now that'll give you all sorts of goodness.

That's all excellent input! Thank you! I'm definitely getting the pups. Even the guitar tech at my local shop concurred that they'd be a good fit. I hadn't considered the push-pull split, but that is a hot tip!!! Thanks again!
