PUps for mustang

Im looking at enhancing the low-mids in my CIJ 69 reissue mustang (basswood), basically warming up the tone and making it diverse. Im playing heavy instrumental rock and doom and would like more resonance, vintage warmth and snarl. Like the semour duncan JB's but maybe with more of a vintage feel. etc warmer mids, nice lows.
Im still running stocks and have no idea what will work.
thanks, all the best.

Re: PUps for mustang

Is that a SD pup? im not familiar with it.

Yes it is : SH-11 (or TB-11)
Should sound good in basswood with very warm mids and a more vintage feel than the JB.

But you also have other options as well. If you are willing to go lower in output, I'd check out the Blues Saraceno Trembucker PATB-3.

Re: PUps for mustang

Cool thanks, ill look into that. what are the pros/cons of Hot vs cool outputs?
maybe SH-11 for the bridge and Antiquities 11 for the bridge?

Welcome to the forum.

Are you looking to stay with single coil-sized pickups on the original scratchplate or are you willing to consider enlarging the pickup cavities and scratchplate cutouts to accept full sized humbuckers?

Was thinking of fitting humbuckers eventually... depending on how much it will cost. Have to pay off the mustang first. So i might start by fitting a single coil into the neck. maybe and antiquity 11 or SSL-5.

Re: PUps for mustang

The SSL-5 and SSL-6 are very good for Mustangs and Duosonics.

The SSL-5 sounds good and im leading towards the sweet sounds of the Custom custom for the bridge. I like the SHR-1 hotrails for the neck too..hmm

Does anyone know which single coils will slot into the mustang and aprox how much it will cost to fit a humbucker in the bridge?

With the music you are playing...I'd go Hot Rails in both spots.

Maybe, i heard that hot rails can be a bit harsh clean though. Id like something a bit warmer and creamier when played clean or slightly overdriven.
Maybe an antiquity in the neck and a hummer for the bridge.

Re: PUps for mustang

How is the mustang routed now? Might luck out and be routed like a cyclone, with a hb in the b and sc in the neck.

The guitar is stock, i think it was made in 94-95. I think ill go for a HB in the b and SC in the bridge... just depends on the combo.

Re: PUps for mustang

What would be a good pup choice for a nice creamy distortion ( thick and warm vintage sound) and warm mid tones when payed clean?
Thinking about Hotrails in the B and a SSL-5 or 1 for the neck.
