Hi Brandnburg!

Before I install this, please let me know if I did it right. Problem is, I wasn't sure how to read the push/pull diagram, so I guessed it was this way. Here they go:

These are EMG cables which are normally fitted with quick-connect endings, so I cut off one end on each so I can solder into the PP. Now, on all pics, the wire going to the LEFT is what in your diagram means "TO OUTPUT" (to the output jack). The one on the RIGHT is coming FROM the pickups. Also, the cable contains the ground and hot wires together separated neatly from each other with smaller thinner cables. WHITE IS HOT, BLACK IS GROUND. There's a BROWN cable that simbolizes the connection you indicated from that DPDT lug into the volume pot.

Looks right?

best way to read it is to think opposite.. pull is the bottom lugs closest to the pot.. push it the top lugs farthest from the pot.. so you might have it backwards.. i think i shall update my diagrams in the future so there is less confusion .. .. i actually wire my volume bypasses in reverse anyway as i tend to keep 100% volume by default

edit.. now im confused.. no way to test a spare pot of mine with a dmm as i dont have access to my tools

just loooked i think you are good.. just wire a jumper to the middle pot lug to the top lug of the switch.. and all should be well

just opened up my guitar.. lug closest to the pot would be for the pull position .. middle is common.. farthest is push

About to solder!

BUT, I just discovered a fun problem. FML... this is an Alpha 25K push pull pot, my guitar is an ESP Horizon. I have no problems at all with the standard EMG pots... this pot has a larger diameter... damn it!!

I would normally just drill a but and make it fit, BUT, I do wanna be able to use the regular EMG pots when I have/want to (I'm getting a dual mode EMG that comes with a push pull to Split the coils) so I'm thinking about swapping those quite frequently (since they're solderless it's easy), so I can have KILL SWITCH POT for live use and COIL SPLIT POT for home recording clean guitars and stuff.

I believe this Alpha is "imperial" and the EMG pots are "metric", my guitar has the metric holes. If I make the hole bigger, will it cause the metric pots to be loose or wiggle, or it doesnt really matter?

Is there a way to replace JUST the pot on the push pull? I have a lot of spare EMG 25k volume pots around which are metric... but dunno if it's posible.

So what does that mean, did I wire it good? There is a jumper wire (Brown) from the bottom right DPDT lug going into the pot's "ground" lug. I need another jumper from the middle pot lug going into which of the two top (well, bottom in the case of the pictures), since one is already being used with that brown jumper?

No . . . I'm sorry. I got lazy and only posted a segment of a circuit. Which only added to the confusion instead of helping. (I plead senility.)

I think you guys have this worked out, but if not, I'll post back a little later after I've caught my breath. (TGIF)

In the mean time, let me offer this one little tidbit of how a push-pull works. Hope this helps rather than hinders. :)

well.. thanks for helping him out with this.. guess i should of posted that but too lazy to hook up my mirror drive.. atm im in a motel room and not very f*kin happy about it..hence i dont have access to a dmm or my backup drive with all my guitar related stuff on it.. As I have already stated, some of the push/pull pots I use are wired backwards on purpose and this does add to my confusion sometimes..

Ok, I'll connect the jumper to the middle lug since it didn't work the way I showed you on the pics :(

BUT, I think we all ignored the next problem, the one about this PP being NON metric, and EMG pots are metric, meaning, thin posts. This guy doesn't fit and I would have to enlarge the hole, not that much but still.

Question is, from your experience, will I be able to use a metric pot in that same hole? Remember I'm getting one of those EMG's that CAN be coil tapped and come with their own PP which is metric as well.

I just don't want to get a wobbly pot/knob...

if you enlarge the whole to fit one.. the smaller one might wobble abit.. but you might be able to stablelize it somehow if it does.. not saying it will wobble though.. id use a wood reamer to enlarge the whole a tad

Omg Artie I'm so glad I found this thread after a couple days of head scratching lol!
I figured out your diagram through testing the terminals from the jack hot and ground haha
Ended up with that exact wiring to kill the guitar in any position. Here's a pic.

Rotate this picture 90 degrees to the right for proper position. That top lug is heavily tinned but not used/connected to anything.

So bottom right (what the screwdriver is pointing at )on the push pull goes to Hot and middle right goes to ground, it's a bit hard to see so I apologize for that, the pot was recycled off an epiphone that's why that stupid chipboard crap is on it.
Works great though! Hopefully this helps someone.

Also after playing around with it I noticed this turned my bridge tone pot (where the push pull is) into a master volume
And my neck tone pot became master tone, bridge and neck volumes work as normal. So there is a drawback......

Also I have no isolated neck pickup....top position on 3-way is both pickups on, middle is still both on, and neck is neck only.....

Back to the drawing board...(I have 50's wirin, not that that should matter)
