I have three PRS SE Singlecuts. Inexpensive $350 guitars, but with a little fret work, some nut work, and a pickup swap, they become very nice professional guitars.
One has Seth Lovers without covers. Stock polished A2 magnets.
Two have 59’s. One new set and one hotter MJ wound set from the 80’s.
I put Polished A2 in the new 59 set, just like the Seth’s have. Been raving about that set for the last few days, and those two sets (Seth’s without covers and new 59’s without covers) now sound very similar, although the A2 59 set has a little more drive and a slightly more “raw” sound compared to the Seth’s.
For the 80’s 59 set, I went with Polished A2 for the neck but something different for the bridge: Roughcast A2.
Cool sound! Chunky. Funky. Chewy.
I especially like both pickups combined.
It’s a new sound for me. Solos still have the same drive and harmonics still leap out...but it’s a little less sizzling.
I really like this set!
