Quarter-Pound for strat

I was listening to the audio samples for the Quarter-Pound, and man does that pup ever sound amazing. It's full and fat, not thin like a lot of strat pups I've heard. With the bridge and middle combined, it sounded almost like a humbucker!!! Does anyone have experience with these? If so, how do the staggered ones compare to the flat, and around how much does the whole set cost? Thanks in advance!

Re: Quarter-Pound for strat

Ok, I'm taking it you are US based so I I can't coment on cost that much but in the uk three QP's would cast you £150 ish, about $300.
The QP is a great little (!!) pickup. I love the one I have in the middle of my Ibanez.
At some point (eventually) I'll get a strat that i can fully load with the lovely things.

Canadian based, but I can easily convert american dollars to canadian.

EDIT: emailed a local music store, they cost $74.95 each, so the set will cost me about $250 in total.

I have a Quater pound in the bridge of my HWY1 Strat. That thing barks. And sounds grerat while it does that. It's fairly High Output. I have AlnicoPros in the other positions and the notch position is quack-a-licious. Rated. I play bluesy rock and not much face-melt-gain though.

Re: Quarter-Pound for strat

i like the qp alot. its got a fat tone kinda like a cross between a p90 and a more traditional strat pup

Re: Quarter-Pound for strat

I had a QP in a Strat some years back, and I loved it. Fat and punchy, and still (to my ears) retains a single coil character. The only reason I don't have one in my current Strat is because I really like the overwound Frahlin (sp?) in the bridge. However, the Frahlin was already in; had I replaced the stock pups myself, I would have gone for the QP. It is a better value, IMHO.

Re: Quarter-Pound for strat

With QP in bridge and neck, what should I put in the mid. pos. for achieving good clean or slightly overdriven sounds ?
I guess something that's not so overly hot would be better.
I'm gonna tap the QP's, so output and tone could be something in the range of tapped QP.

Suggestions?

Re: Quarter-Pound for strat

i would say an aps2. the a2 mag will have a little less highend and more mids to better balance tonally with the fat of the qp but still have a sweet clean tone. im in the process of setting up a strat with a qp in the bridge, aps2 in the middle and ssl6 in the neck.

Thanks, that one seems to be the right choice, what do you think, which would be more suitable for the neck pos, QP or SSL-6 ?

Re: Quarter-Pound for strat

personally i like the ssl6 better but others like the qp in the neck more. i think its personal preferance and what suits the guitar better

Re: Quarter-Pound for strat

the players pick are the best sellers, the pro pick are less commonly used but great none the less

Re: Quarter-Pound for strat

since the staggered one has a slightly higher DC resistance than the flat, does that mean the tone will be slightly fatter?

Re: Quarter-Pound for strat

not really. there is a +/- 5% tolerance so the tonal change youll hear is from the magnets rather than the small dc resistance difference.
i usually get flat versions just cause

alright, thanks...I'll probably get the staggered ones for the heck of it. It'll be a long time before I get them though...I really need a job...I've got around $400 spent on pickups already and I don't even have the money yet.

Re: Quarter-Pound for strat

to go with your qp you cant go wrong with a scremon demon ,i have a mini demon humbucker in a strat and its awsome,it is a good match for the qp,
