Quarter Pound pickup history

Re: Quarter Pound pickup history

yes hence the name quarter pound (1/4" pole pieces) but i have no idea how long its been around

Re: Quarter Pound pickup history

Didn't Ritchie Blackmore use it well back in the day?

If so, it has to have way more than 10 years.

Re: Quarter Pound pickup history

Apparently, it goes back at least to the time when CBS owned Fender:

Note: They were called "Quarter Pounders" back then. I wonder if McDonalds was involved in the name change.

Re: Quarter Pound pickup history

Woah geesh look at that price list!

Man pickups are a lot cheaper now considering economics.

Re: Quarter Pound pickup history

yeah really.....pretty awesome when you think about it. especially considering the amount of pickups people on this board buy.

Re: Quarter Pound pickup history

I heard a rumour that they were based off the original Schecter pickups, and thats why Ritchie Blackmore switched from Schecter pickups - they stopped producing aftermarket things.

Re: Quarter Pound pickup history

Indeed those prices look scary! Before the days of a bigger factory. You really need to compare to the current custom-shop prices, as that's what i bet it really was back then...laboratory!

Re: Quarter Pound pickup history

Yes Blackmore was using some high output Schecter pups... then Schecter stop manufacturing them.. thats when he started using Quaterpounds... Iguess that takes them to the 80's... they r defintly more than 10 years old for sure

Props to you, Amigo!!! That is the truth! We are in a musical "Golden Age" right now...if someone can't find tone these days, they should become a drummer, or a rapper!:9:

edit: Back then, you would have had to send a personal check, or a money order to order a piece of gear from most sellers. It could have taken a solid 7-10 working days for any seller to receive the order by US Post Office across the US...and it was not uncommon for businesses to take three or five working days to ship an order. Add another 10 working days for a personal check to clear, and you get some idea how long the process was to get a piece of gear.

True, but everything was at a slower pace then (the last days of the no-personal computer era) so we really didn't think anything of it.
