Quarter pounder install

Hi, my first time here. I just had three quarter pounders installed in my Strat. When I turn down the volume pot for a cleaner sound, the pickups gets REALLY dark sounding...complete tonality shift. Is this a characteristic of this pickup, or did the installer perhaps wire something incorrectly? Thanks for the help!

Re: Quarter pounder install

No this is the characteristic of the volume pot actually... the '50s mod wiring gets rid of that if you can do soldering yourself...

Re: Quarter pounder install

Really? Wow, I do not remember the pot having that effect on the old pups....some yes, but certainly not to this extent.....hmmm....

Re: Quarter pounder install

I mean I don't know how much it is with yours, but it has some effect...

Btw... welcome to the forum ;)

Thanks for your replies, btw. :^)
Some tone change I can understand, but this is drastic. It's like almost ALL mids and highs get rolled off.

I think Ritchie Blackmore used these and when he turns down, it's cleaner but tonally similar.

Re: Quarter pounder install

Uhm... are you then sure this is the volume pot you are rolling down? Shouldn't be THAT bad normally...

Re: Quarter pounder install

hahaha good question, yes I am sure. :^)

The volume does go down, the distortion goes down, but so does the tone. I'll have to have him go back in an check things out....

Re: Quarter pounder install

Does that cost you anything? If yes, you could also just open it up yourself and check if it is similar too the wiring schems on the SD site.

Re: Quarter pounder install

No, no cost. He works with me and he does a lot of work on guitars so I trust him. But I will check the wiring scheme too. Good tip. :^)

Re: Quarter pounder install

Your Strat most likely has a 250k volume pot. A 500k would be better for the Quarter Pounder.

But that still doesn't quite make SUCH an effect, it's more of an overall brightness+
