Question about Neck shapes

are U shaped necks the same thing as V shaped necks?

or are they different?

I really like the necks on the Tele thinlines (the ones with 2 humbuckers) and I guess they are a U shape.

Re: Question about Neck shapes

u necks are rounder. V shapes have a really really subtle point on them and are very well rounded. It's pretty much like drawing a triangle, but giving 2 of the sides a healthy radius curve. I like the V's alot, my strat is a V

yep the MIM's

those guitars would have a C shape neck, with a 1 5/8 nut width...the C is a good all around shape of neck, but I prefer a wider nut width. BUt to answer your question it is a C...a U would be much deeper, a V would have a peak in the back of the neck a soft V wold have a softer peak that a V neck, a D would be a pretty shallow neck, the list goes on.

they are C's? they feel larger then any C shaped neck I have or have played before.

Last friday at GC I compared the Thinlines neck to a standard MIM tele neck and the Thinline's felt bigger and more comfy.
