Just got back from a trip to GC and came back with a LP Studio faded cherry and I was wondering how to tell if it is the Vintage Mahogany model with mahogany top and Burstbuckers, or just a faded LP Studio with 490/498's. The sales guy insisted that it had Burstbuckers, but I have a feeling he didn't have a clue. Any info is appreciated.

if they are the BB pro's, then they should have the "patent applied for" sticker on the back, if they are just the regular 490's, they should just have the "gibson usa" logo on the back.

if it has a maple top, it has 490/498
if its all mahogany, it has Burstbucker Pros
the maple top faded studio costs about $50-75 more and is available in one or two burst finishes
(I used to work at GC)

yeah you have the BB Pros - better than the 490/498 IMO
Thanks for replying guys- I just looked at the GC receipt and it says "MAH FADED CHERRY" - I think it is a VM Studio LP.

Yeah, I had a les paul just like that. Congrats man, I thought it was awesome, and enjoyed it very much. The pickups sound good in that one.

With stock magnets, yes. But I've swapped magnets on some of mine, and they're a whole new PU. Greatly improved tones.
