Question about SD stacks design

Hello, finally got my YJM's.

A question, I saw a video on y2b of a guy with a strat with Dimarzio hs2 and 3 wired single coil.

Is it possible to do this with the Fury's? Maybe a small switch to make them split? I don't really know if the SD stacks use the same system of the HS, 2 coils, one in the top of the other. In fact, I always heard people saying that the HS are humbuckers. And some say they are in a middle ground between singles and humbuckers, not so hot, not so light, and of course, eliminates the hum.

With the YJM's I'm of course looking for that neo classical malmsteen/blackmore type of sound, but It won't hurt if they can make some blues too after all we're talking about a strat.

I know the yjm's are made over the stack design SD use, with more output probably, but anyway I would like to understand the design of the SD stacks.

Re: Question about SD stacks design

I have the STK-S2 Hot Stack for Strat in the center position of my Spectrum LX (see my avatar), and as I understand it the YJM Fury is supposed to be based on their other stack designs, so I'm thinking it is a humbucker. I noticed if you click the "wiring" link on the SD page for the pickup itself, it shows a 4-wire system, so you CAN split it.

I have mine wired up with a mini switch for series/split/parallel. It sounds very "single-coilish" on its own, and I don't hear a big change in sound when I split the coil (unlike the very noticeable difference on my other HB's... SH-2/SH-4). It gets a little brighter and thinner is all.

I picked it because it already had such a single-coil-like sound for my center position (my guitar is now actually HHH instead of the original HSH) and I was curious to see if having a little more beef available for the position would sound, knowing I could always just use the split if I didn't like it series. As it turns out, I like both sounds... but I have to admit it isn't a big difference. Parallel is significantly quieter. I'm thinking that the design causes that... that the active coil is the one on top, making it not change much when it gets split.

Either way, it does what I wanted it to do!
