Question about the EL Diablo pickup.

Re: Question about the EL Diablo pickup.

Iommi came out first in the early-mid '90s, then the OG "El Diablo" in the mid-late '90s, then the rebrand of the Iommi as the "El Diablo" in the early '00s

OG = Original Gangster. Slang for something that's the original or the first of its kind

Haven't you seen this thread? LINK

Great link and info. If I saw it before, I forgot. I didn't have quite as big a stake in it as now. ;)

Reading it now.

Re: Question about the EL Diablo pickup.

Not sure I'm getting the "jacked up Pearly Gates" reference with the the twin-blade El Diablo.

It has A2 mags, but that's the biggest similarity really and not much of one since the mags are doubled up, mounted vertically to act as the "pole pieces" for the strings and the coil wire and geometry are completely different.

The El Diablo is notably hotter, stiffer and more compressed than the Pearly. I don't consider them the same tonally, either. The El Diablo is fairly hi-fi/modern sounding unless split/parallel.

Not to say that someone who likes the PG wouldn't dig the ED, but I would steer someone looking for a "jacked up Pearly" toward the Billy Gibbons custom PG set or the '78 model.
Is it bright and clear sounding? I might have to buy one.
