Question about the necks on PRS guitars - (PRS good for shredding?)

Re: Question about the necks on PRS guitars - (PRS good for shredding?)

Yeah but why bump an old one? Why not just make a new one

Because the old threads contain useful information. I dont know about you but I'd rather add to an existing body of knowledge than be forced to redo the entire body of knowledge every time a related question arises.

I agree as well. With a little practice, ANYONE (not only Malmsteen lol) can play their best riffs on ANY neck/fingerboard profile. However, the consensus opinion is that FLAT fingerboards accomplish this with greater ease and comfort, than rounded "Strat-like" fingerboards.

Yep I own a 07 Custom 24 with the WT neck and it took me a while to get used to playing the 10 radius board. I play my PRS out a lot because of how the guitar responds and sounds. However I will be the first to admit that it's not the easiness guitar to play fast riffs on above the 12th fret I own by far. My Washburn USA's and Carvins will play circles around the PRS as shredders because of that super tight fretboard radius (PRS 10 Carvin 16 my Washburns 16 and 20).

Why do new members feel the need to bump zombie threads?

Damned if they do, damned if they don't

They post a D.A.N. question and they get "SEARCH, N00B!!!"

They search and find a relevant thread, it's "ZOMBIE THREAD, CHECK THE DATE BRO"

Re: Question about the necks on PRS guitars - (PRS good for shredding?)

I still think what I thought 6 years ago! I will say that after owning the guitar for 7 years I think that PRS should go to a compound radius like a Jackson, or a 12" radius. My R8 and EBMM 25th Anniversary play faster higher on the neck for that one reason. In addition to them my Cleveland strat has a 14" with a HUGE neck and it's faster too.

I prefer the width of the PRS fingerboard to the EBMM but the 10" radius bothers me...which is why the EBMM goes to the gig this weekend and the PRS stays home.

I've only played a PRS 2wice - my friend's Custom 24, and one at GC the day I bought my JEM7V. The strings on the one I played at GC were so high, I couldn't get an accurate assessment on its playability, but the tone was great, although I noticed there wasn't that much gain, perhaps due to the pups being too low. My friend's had fairly low action, and I didn't notice any discomfort, but that was before I got my RG1570 (and various Ibanez guitars), so I need to hook up with my friend again to make a comparison.

Personally I feel all off the rack guitars should have a 12 inch radius. 12 I feel is probably the most comfortable for average guitars.

I'd prefer 16 for myself. I will say I'm managing to get along with the 10 on my Navarro though.

I had been playing Carvins or USA Washburns for many years till I bought my 07 Custom 24. It took a while to really feel comfortable with the 10 radius but now the PRS is the guitar I play out 90% of the time.
Yes the pickups on the new ones are much lower in output than the early Custom 24's with the HFS VB pickups and the 5 way rotary like mine.
The tone and response on my 07 Custom 24 is just head and shoulders above anything else I have ever owned. Don't know if it's just this particular guitar though as I have never really gotten on with a PRS before this one. I bought it almost a year ago now so the new guitar rush is gone. Almost a year down the road and it's still the one guitar that I always grab going out the door to to play out somewhere. And this is out of the 10 electrics I own so--:fing2:.
Here's mine.

Yeah, my friend has an older dark blue Custom 24 with the rotary, and I didn't notice any volume issues with the pups. Great guitar. I might consider snagging a used one for X-mas :smokin:
