Question for Duncan the company

I got the new Guitar Player in the mail yesterday and saw a cool article on 9 currrent production PAF style pickups and in the article it mentioned that Seymour Duncan declined to send in any pickups to GP for the shootout.

I just have to ask...why would Duncan do that??

Re: Question for Duncan the company

Are you fishing for another chance to put down the company due to your disagreement with their marketing/promotional strategy?

Re: Question for Duncan the company

Maybe they have reason to question their impartiality.

Re: Question for Duncan the company

There's no magazine review I have found useful... everyone gets at least a passable review, because either they are an advertiser, or they could be. What the hell does it matter that SD didn't want to send pickups? They're pretty well represented, and magazines are a dying medium anyway.

Re: Question for Duncan the company

Okay, Larry, you can come out now; we know you're in there.

Re: Question for Duncan the company

Personally, I would never read a magazine article to tell me what pickups to use. I generally don't trust anyone who hasn't lived through one of Ace's bathroom humor threads to comment on anything that important.

I am simply curious. Seymour set the bar, IMO for PAF style pickups and most guys are still playing catchup and most of the ones that are not are simply attempting to copy Seymour's work.

I am just stunned that GP asked for pickups and Duncan declined.

A PAF round up with no Duncan's is like a sports car round up with no Porsche!

That said, thanks for drudging up the past and attempting to derail yet another thread...and in the first reply no less.

Thank you.

Re: Question for Duncan the company

Magazines are completely useless as far as reviews go, and I don't think the people who read them are into PAFs anyway. Plus, Seymour Duncan is really well known anyway, and they haven't put out any new PAFs, so why promote your old stuff? It's already been done. By the way, without this thread, I never would have known.

But good luck crapping on SD on the SD Forum! Hope that works out for you.

Re: Question for Duncan the company

Good Lord...not crapping at all, just asking a simple question.

You cats need to lighten up a little and be less defensive.

Re: Question for Duncan the company

Trade mags often show (blatant) favoritism to whoever their best sponsors are, so if SD hasn't been stroking Guitar Player with ad dollars recently then maybe they suspect they won't fare well anyway.

Re: Question for Duncan the company

Odd that they didn't send samples

Agreed. Could have been a good chance to show off the WLH and the Slash set and maybe get a plug in for the Little PG if the format allowed.

Now maybe of it was a comparison of progressive nu metal pickups....

Re: Question for Duncan the company

I'm sure the powers that be had their reasons.

What do I care what GP says? Probably haven't read one of their magazines in at least 5 years.

Re: Question for Duncan the company

You're attacking this from the wrong angle. The real question is: how can somebody run a magazine named "Guitar Player" and not own a set of SD PAF's? Seriously, who works there?

Re: Question for Duncan the company

The real question is....

What does Seymour have to prove when it comes to PAFs?

Answer: NOTHING. It would be a totally pointless exercise putting all the Duncan PAFs in the ring because they're all different sorts of authentic, but authentic nevertheless.

Re: Question for Duncan the company

I don't represent the company, just a loyal user and a person that understands product positioning and such (to a certain degree).

So, with that disclaimer, when you're lead dog, everyone else is chasing you. You really have nothing to win by sending in a set. Everything to lose. Also, we don't know if there is previous bad history with the mag or perhaps the author.

Just my two cents.

Re: Question for Duncan the company

Holy ****, I go get a cup of coffee and come back to this?

How is that question a "dump on Duncan"?

I would be curious to know why as well (even if I don't bother reading guitar mags).

Of course, maybe that is the answer to the question. How many people who are serious about PAF style pickups even read guitar mags anymore?
