Question for EMG guys.

Hey, i used an emg-81 for the bridge of my last guitar and really liked it, all except the fact of being so clear if you make 1 slip you're screwed. Anyway my question is, i want to be able to play clean, very very dark bassy metal, and be able to play 80's hard rock, alternating the bridge and neck selections. I was thinking about dual emg-81's because i heard they get very bassy in the neck :D and i like the sound of it in the bridge very well. Anyone here have an opinion? I always heard the 85 was a better neck pickup but i want a very bassy neck (not overly tho, just like the sound of some of the darker sounding jackson guitars). Almost frogot, this will be for my Platium pro Warlock with floyd rose.(you cant get worse the the stock pickups it has, NO MATTER WHAT)

Re: Question for EMG guys.

Powersounds? A stock Ibanez pickup... why? isnt stock what im trying to get AWAY from?

Btw, 6+ people recomended EMG's as a good upgrade for the same thing i was looking for, my question is the combo set up, 81/81 85/81 85/85 85/89 60/81? Im confused. What would deliver on the sound that im looking for?

Re: Question for EMG guys.

The 85 is way too bassy for me in the neck, almost muddy. I'd go with an 85/60a, wouldn't want to have both Warlocks sounding the same, would you?

Re: Question for EMG guys.

if you dig the 81 bridge that much, i suggest you stick with it, unless you want to make your new guitar different from your other one.
about the neck pickup. it realy depends on what type of sound you want to have in that position. the 81 in the neck will naturally darker than it would in the bridge, but it will still retain its character. so in other words, if you're planning on doing tight riffs in the neck position or realy face melting tone for solos, the 81 will serve you well. but you can say goodbye to proper cleans from that guitar :)
the 85 as compared to the 81 in the neck, will be darker sounding, rounder and bigger, with a little less output. it has a significantly richer tonal character which is awesome for soloing in the neck.

hope i've helped.

Re: Question for EMG guys.

After reading MANY MANY MANY reviews, pricing, website browsing, and finaly gaining some common sence, ive thought about it and i think a 60 in the neck and an 89 in the bridge would be the best thing for me. I would like some comments and suggestions on this. I just figure it this way, with a setup like that you should be able to do anything.

Btw, whats the sound difference in the 81 and 89 for the bridge? Thats what im still not sure on yet, which one i would like better, the 81 in my other guitar just is a little thin, i wanted a little bit more from it, does that mean the 89 would be better? (gets even more excited about 60/89 idea* )

i have a different experience... i found the 60 to be a lot more bassier than the 85... the 85 neck balances perfectly with the 81 on the bridge IMO...

Unless you want a single coil sound in the bridge, you should get the 85 rather than the 89. Thickening up the bridge sound (and adding some mids) seems to be the most common reason people go with the 85/89 over the 81.
I've had a pair of 81s for 7 years, and I just sold one of them to get an 85 for the bridge.

Re: Question for EMG guys.

Ehh, i basicly want the 89 for the bridge, so i can kick it to a single coil, to complement the 60 in the neck and get really really nice cleans.

Any way, in many many other topics b4, i said i wanted a bassy neck with high clarity, and i wanted a fairly rich and versitle bridge.
