A 4x12 with Greenbacks is always a good place to start with a 2204 if you are looking for the vintage tones, IMHO. I have a 2203 with Greenbacks, and to me it sounds way better than with V30s (had those too) or G12T-75s (these might be good for classic scooped 80's hard rock and heavy metal tones, though).
Greenbacks simply ROCK, even if there might be other equal or even better alternatives. But if we stick to 'standard' speakers frequently related to Marshalls (that is, Celestions), they are as I said a good place to start. You can always try other alternatives afterwards, but with a 2204 and G12Ms you will start with a solid rock tone.
