Angled.... but I'm still wondering on that price ;).

Re: Question for Luthiers - Cost of Floyd Installation?

You probably wouldn't have to recess it, it would stand up on top of the guitar like the old Jackson archtops. But I would suggest recessing it just a little. It would define the space visually, and on the archtop it would give the floyd a flat place to rest during pullups or string changes. If you didn't recess it you'd have 2-4 nice big dings under it fairly quickly from the spring tines. But also remember you have those string through holes. If you recess the trem you could fill those, and they'd disappear inside the route. (or would they?) That's why I asked if the floyd would cover them all. Then you could paint and maybe put neoprene in the route, and it would look totally stock.

I'm not worried that he would have to recess it so much as I am that he wouldn't be able to if so desired. Doesn't a set neck with an angled pocket mean the trem would have to sit fairly high off the body? It's not like he could shim the neck to a different, recess-accomodating angle, right?

Re: Question for Luthiers - Cost of Floyd Installation?

It wouldn't be "too high" because a standard Fender-style bolt on with no angle requires a recess, while a tune-o-matic doesn't. But on my Blackjack for example, the bridge sits relatively low for a t-o-m, and that would mean the Floyd should be basically flush with the top, maybe with a slight gap. But ot wouldn't be like, flying 1/2" above the guitar or anything. I suppose he should measure how high his strings are off the guitar's top right now, and that would tell you how far the trem would be. The Ibanez Edge style trems sit the deepest in a guitar, so perhaps that's a better alternative to the OFR7. But either way it's not going to look any worse than the old Jackson & Charvel archtops.

you could email USACG to see if they could do a 7-string with the scale length you want. i've heard the guys there are more flexible than Warmoth.
