Question for Y'all

Who would you say is the biggest/most famous amplifier or amplifier brand.

I would make some kind of poll, but polls are kinda silly and this is serious.

Re: Question for Y'all

Fender........I would speculate that for every Marshall you see, you will se at least 3 or 4 Fenders, if not more.

Re: Question for Y'all

I was just thinking about it yesterday while channel surfing and catch a glimpse of a really crap movie about a girl band "playing" "rock"... and of couse they were backed by ... a wall of Marshall stacks.

Furthermore you see way more Marshall in the top of the pop studio than any other amps.

I wouldn't be surprised if guitar world neophytes would nonetheless know of the existence of Marshall amps and Fender guitars, but not Fenders amps. Honestly I don't see Fenders amps appearing more often on screen than Marshalls or being more famous.

Now, do accomplished musicians prefer Fender amp to Marshalls would be another question.

Re: Question for Y'all

Fenders are good for thier thing, Marshalls are good for their thing, Mesas are good for their thing... etc...

Re: Question for Y'all

Movies and videos it seems to be marshall. The only brand I knew before I got into guitars was Marshall.

Re: Question for Y'all

Definitely Marshall. I don't think there's any other brand that's more commonly known for amps. Of course, weren't the original Marshalls based off Fender circuits? If so, not a lot of people know only the Marshall nameplate and not the Fenders that spawned them.

Re: Question for Y'all

I agree with what one person said Above, Each amp has its own thing and sound, depends what kind of music as well, like an old 210-hd music man loaded with emvs, its nice, its loud and can get a crunch, but you cant do everything cause its more clean, but I do say that marshall is King because you can get whatever you need..IMO, you can play any style of music on a marshall

Marshall=TOP LINE

Marshall's are nice, but they are limited to their specialty, as are all other amps.... But, I'd never be pretentious enough to say that you can play ANY style on a Marhsall.... I've tried to clean SEVERAL Marshalls up enough to be in the ballpark of a Fender, and fell short.... If I had the money to do what I wish... I'd have the Twin on A-Channel for clean and slightly overdriven, and Marhsall on B-Channel for those higher gains... For now, I stick with the PRISTINE cleanliness of my Fender and crunch it up with pedals......

Re: Question for Y'all

Thats also why I said each amp has its own sound and it depends on what music you play, everyone has their favorite and is a fan of a different brand, but I do know marshall has got balls, my TSL 100 stack is loud on 1, its loud and its nasty, but again, its good for my style and works great for me!

Re: Question for Y'all

+1 to everyone prettymuch so far...in the mainstream (that is even your average joe schmoe) Marshall is by far the most well recognised, that and fender guitars.

Just like if you asked the average guy on the stree to name 1 great famous guitar player 90% of the answers would be undoubtedly jimi hendrix...and what did he play?????!?!?!?!?!?

Re: Question for Y'all

Marshalls symbolize rock n roll and rebellion and even the most fake of wannabe music stars wants to be seen with them.

That being said, I would go with Fender. It's been there since the beginning, they have more affordable and usable models - everything down to an affordable 20w model that works on stage like the Deluxe all the way to the Twin with it's huge sound. More working musicians can use, afford, and have a place in their sound for a Fenders.

Btw I don't use any Fenders.

Re: Question for Y'all

Gentlemen.........read my prior post with this in mind..........hard rock is NOT the only style of music that uses amplified guitar:fingersx: It would be interesting to see what the sales figures are for Marshall and Fender, both today and over the past 50 years. Think about how many small stores sell Fender products and do not sell Marshall. (and YES, you have to include the crappy little practice/beginner amps too) I would argue that Peavey may sell more amps in the USA than Marshall. Lets throw another spanner in the works. How many Fender CLONES do you see as opposed to Marshall? And I do believe the question was biggest/most famous, which in fact could be considered as two seperate questions in this instance. The layman probably recognizes Marshall stacks, but how many of them really know what they are looking at? lol
By the way, as you can tell from my signature, i am not predjudicedagainst Marshall in any way.

It was definitely marshall for me. This is even before I began to play guitar. Their logo can be easily seen but the major thing is that most cabs used you see everywhere is a marshall. I think the fender logos are harder to see and typically tv stuff has dirty instead of clean tones.
