QUESTION: What Is This Humbucker Wiring?

Hi,

I installed an SH2 in the neck of a Tele. I have the pup wired backward so that it's in phase with the stock bridge pup. So 'normal' is green: hot and black: grnd, with red & white together.

I was trying to figure out how to wire the humbucker OOP with itself---it's not as simple as it seem backwards.

Anyhoo I found a humbucker sound I -really- like...

white: hot, black: grnd, with red & green together. It sounds great by itself and with the bridge.

QUESTION: What -is- that wiring? OOP? Parallel?

Trying to work it out so I can figure out how to work it into a 5 position switch.

TIA,

Re: QUESTION: What Is This Humbucker Wiring?

That's actually split to the slug coil(black+white). The screw coil(green+red) is out of the circuit.

You could get the same result by wiring it green to hot, black to ground, red and white together and then short red+white to hot. If you short red+white to ground instead you'll get the screw coil. You could also get that result by wiring it white to hot, red to ground, green and black together and then green+black to ground.

The above alternatives assume you want to also have the regular humbucker sound along with the split. If you only ever want the slug coil you would just tape green+red together and leave them out of your wiring entirely.

Re: QUESTION: What Is This Humbucker Wiring?

THANK YOU! Makes so much sense as, when combined with the bridge pup it -kinda- has that strat 'Position 4' sound---since the slug coil is closer to the bridge pup than the screw coil.

If I may ask a follow-up question: I was -trying- to get the 'out of phase with itself in series'. If I read you right, if I still want to try it, would I wire it:

Red to hot, green + white together, Blk to ground?

Thanks again!

Re: QUESTION: What Is This Humbucker Wiring?

Exactly. And to split it you would short green+white to hot.

Thanks. I tried it and it's a cool sound, but... as I was warned... it's so weak as to be unusable.

I'll still with the slug-only coil. Great sound!

Best,
