Questions about Gotoh Floyd bridges?

Re: Questions about Gotoh Floyd bridges?

One way to keep the newer Floyd arm nuts from coming loose is to use a little Teflon tape (plumbers tape) on the male threads. To help prevent the arm from squeaking, wipe the end of the arm clean were it gos into the holder and put a little wax on it. This works quite well for me. You can get some cool sounds at times with the squeaking by shifting the arm from side to side as you depress it in a slower dive bomb.

I don't recall ever seeing one of those mounting plates!

Did some more looking.

Warmoth sells OFR bridges in Gold for $200 with your choice of Floyd Rose nut. #2,3,4, or 5. You can also buy the nuts separately for $42 in Gold, and they sell the old style pivot screws for $10 to $12.

WD Music Sells the Gotoh for $230 with no nut, and $245 with nut in Gold. They also sell Floyd Rose nuts in ALL SIZES #1 through #10 for $51.80 in Gold.

So I think I will get a Gold Gotoh bridge from Mojotone for #123.60 and a Gold R4 Floyd Rose nut from Warmoth for $42, or the Gold R8 Floyd Rose nut from WD Music for $51.80.

The dimensions of the R4 and R8 nuts are the same except for the height at the D. R4 = .278" R8 = .225".
I am going to use Jescar 57110 EVO fret wire. It is .057" tall and almost as gold as the Gotoh Gold 510 mini tuners FedEx delivered today
Not sure if I will use the inserts and studs for the bridge or get the wood screw type. What do you guys think ?

Thank you every one for your input! John

Re: Questions about Gotoh Floyd bridges?

Did yours rest on a neato plate like this?

No it was in a traditional rout. That looks like an early Gibson U2 which used the same unit but on the plate, the later ones like my 88 Showcase U-2 had a traditional rout and the Schaller Floyd. My WRC was a bolt on Maple neck ebony board super strat and the WRC stood for Wayne Ray Charvell the U-2 was also a Charvell design in a set neck.
Here is an old photo of me playing the 86 WRC on stage in the late 80's.
