I have an LTD that needs a new nut, it is a M-201. The width of the neck and area where the nut goes is pretty close to 1 11/16". What nut should I put in there, I've only ever put a new nut in a strat and acoustics. I'm looking to just fix it and sale it, so I'm not looking for something super high end, just something that does the job and won't crap out and is decent.

Re: Questions on a nut

I don't know, But I think your search for the correct nut will have to include the thickness of the nut in addition to the width of the neck at the nut slot.

Here is one place to start.

Re: Questions on a nut

You can't just buy a nut and expect to stick it on there and be good. It needs to be fitted and the action set by someone competent. It's not a car part, OK? If you're going to sell it, let the next guy deal with it as he sees fit - and if it's butched up, say so. If it's just not to your liking... then don't say anything but that.

Re: Questions on a nut

it looks like black tusq. You gotta measure : width, E-E width, height, thickness, then find one that matches. BTW, how did it break off? It never happened to me or anyone I know.

I don't really know how it broke off. I got it to fix it but then got busy with school and work so never got around to it. I think I'm going to take the advice above and sell it and let someone who wants to fix it.

Totally random Nut Question - Could I use reindeer antler? (Old dog chew that's no longer being used, too small for her now) Just chop it up to fit?

You can make a guitar nut from licorice if you want to, just may not work like you expect. Why not order something proper.

Mmmm.... licorice... but you're likely right. I just thought I would ask.

Re: Questions on a nut

I'd go with a black TUSQ nut also since I've installed them on a few of my guitars. You get a pretty clear tone from them and are probably the top brand in guitar nuts.

This is always my argument for Tusq. Bone is great, I use it and will again. Many different materials have been used, some better than others, but if you want it right every time, get a Tusq nut and be done.
