Questions on re=winding the parker pickups!

Hey everyone, after weighing the prices and times of the two options of changing my parker pickups ( seymour duncan rewind or ed roman replacement), I am going to do the rewinding because its cheaper and i can get any pickups i want. I have a couple questions, if anyone can help me out:

1. How much would it cost on average to have a technician remove the pickups, then put them back when they are rewound?

2. I have worked on guitars before and know my way around most wiring, is it safe/possible to remove the pickups myself? They are not wired into the electronics in the traditional way, i popped open the back cover to find wire buses and confusing electronics. If anyone knows how to remove those pickups your advice would be appreciated.

3. Which pickup specs would be best for the thin Parker? I favor the alnico 2 pro in the neck, but are there other suggestions for a strong bridge pup and a very beautiful singing neck pup?

1. $40-60 USC depending on where you take it.

2. Never worked on a Parker so it's only an educated guess but it shouldn't be too hard to follow the leads and see where they connect to the guitar. If you have braided sheilding and one conductor leads (vintage style) wiring on the pickups it's a little trickier but you have two options. Either trace the wiring to the guitsr and unsolder it or cut the leads of the pickup leaving them long in the body of the guitar and use the old leads as stand-offs. You can then solder the pickup back in to the old leads instead of soldering directly to the guitar. You can use an ohm meter with one lead connected to a pot chassis or the output jack sleeve to determine which wire is grounded.

When they do the re-wind at SD, they will supply you with new leads so cutting the leads short at the pickup wont cause any problems. Ask for 4 conductor wiring on the pickup after it is rewound.

3. I think a CC and an APH-II neck will help balance out the Parkers low body mass and thicken up your tone a bit.

Are not the pickups on a Parker Dimarzios? I don't know, but I thought they looked like Dimarzios...

Have you inquired with DiMarzio? I was sure that customers could now custom-order just about any of their models with Parker-style base plates and mounting screws.

They are Dimarzio designed. SD will rewire them for a reasonable price, though.

I'm not certain how the pups are wired; but don't forget that the Parker has Fishman transducers in the bridge (just to make things a little more complex).

Maybe contact Parker Guitars and ask for wiring specs.

I say go for the SD rewiring job.
