quick dumb hb/split quesiton

I have got everything installed and was following this diagram to replace a cheap set of covered hb's in an Epi to coil tap invaders. I had zoomed in on the bridge pu/switch wiring. Well I wired both of the switch parts of the push/pull pots identically both on the left lugs where looking at the diagram it says do neck on the left bridge on the right. Will that change anything?

I really wish there was a real pinout on these push/pull pots (store was out of SD pots but I'm sure they're all pinned the same anyway) I can't truly hear the difference in whether I messed something up or not but I'm sure it's a real easy thing for you guys to tell me. Also, the diagram shows the pot area on the back where to set the ground joint, if I choose the side of the pot to solder instead that's not going to hurt anything right? My switch section sticks out the back where the large flat area would normally be.

One other question. I am planning to do a second guitar this same mod. That one is lefty. So I will reverse which pot lug gets grounded but would I keep all other solder joints consistent with the diagram here or will I mirror everything on that one?

TIA folks. Looking forward to finishing this and moving on to the lefty one.

Hi cheechi... welcome to the forum!

1) No... left or right side won't matter. Each side is completely separate from the other, so as long as you have everything for each pickup going to the SAME side, you're golden.

2) Side or back of pot doesn't matter either. It's basically a metal bowl on the back, so as long as you're attached well somewhere on it, you won't have any issues.

3) The only thing reversed for lefty is the ground & hot on the volume pots and the hot on the tone pots. Everything else (splits, center lugs, etc.) can stay the same.

Enjoy! :fing2:

Thanks so much. I was assuming it would have been an out of phase type issue but I don't really know what that sounds like on its own, if that makes sense. They use these push/pulls to take hb's out of phase or do series/parallel so I assumed that I had made half of that sort of thing happen without meaning to.

No problem! You can only have "out of phase" when running more than one pickup... and then ONE of them is switched so that it's essentially running backward (hot goes to ground and vice versa). It's kind of a cool alternate sound for some situations. Look it up on YouTube and you can hear the difference it makes. :D

Re: quick dumb hb/split quesiton

Thanks again for the help. Got them wired cleaned up a few solder joints and it's happy.

With the high gain input on the amp I am getting some buzz, with the low gain I'm barely even getting 60hz buzz (it's there, I can tell it's single coil but it's not pronounced). The buzz I am hearing is tolerable for the practice amp it's going into. When I restring it I will take the bridge apart and resolder that, now that I've got the rest sorted out I know that's where its coming from.

So thanks again. And to others that have answered here I'm sure you aren't surprised how often threads on this forum comes up in google searches.
